Mrs. Kiwi's Picture
Mrs. Kiwi, Los Angeles Age and Occupation in 06: 27, Bookkeeper Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, P.E. Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!

More For Maggie

March 22nd, 2007 @ 9:28 am by Mrs. Kiwi

Our florist has responded to my email, and she said we could make a pomander that wouldn’t be so heavy. Her only worry (and now mine) was how well the pomander will stand up against a 4 year old slamming it around. Heck, if I had a pomander, I’d totally swing it around and around- so I couldn’t blame her! So, that may be something to think about. Maggie (the flower girl) will be wearing a wreath with ribbons cascading down the back, but I’d like to give her something to hold. Reader Jasmin mentioned the idea of a flower wand, which I think is pretty cool. This is the picture she sent.

Maybe the wand could be a little smaller (she’s four years old) and with a little less of the filler flowers, but I like it - princess Maggie! We may also have a flower girl dress. Picked up on the sly by Grandma (my aunt) it seems to fit the mold perfectly (I was told). When I see the dress, I’ll let you know.

I’d like the flower girl dress to have a sash, but if we do the pomander & wreath, or the wand & wreath, would a sash be too much? I love that look.

You could always have her blow bubbles as she walks down the aisle if you’re worried about overkill on the flowers.

I would try to have her carry some fall-like thing! Maybe a pretty branch with autumn leaves on it? Hehe, no idea where you’d get one. Or maybe a little wreath? Or a wand! :-) Hehe, she’s so cute, anything will look great!!

I think you could do the sash and wreath if the wreath ribbons aren’t that long. Perhaps they could be to the flower girl’s shoulders? Or just long enough to cover her hair (if she’s wearing it down)?

I went to a wedding where the flower girl (who was a little over a year old) carried a darling wand that was basically sunflowers on a stick with ribbons. It was very cute and people loved it. I don’t think wreath, sash and wand would be overkill- the flowergirl is all about teh cute.

I think a flower wand would be lovely… yeah, I picture a pomander being played with pretty hard.

I agree with Birdy — a little extra flowers are adorable on the flowergirl! Crank up the cute.

Not many venues are going to let anyone blow bubbles (unless it’s all outdoors?) and this could be very messy for a 4-year-old, and then she has to sit through the rest of the wedding/reception covered in sticky bubbles? But she could blow KISSES!

They make glitter wands for little girls. It’s already the right size and weight, and you could cover one of those with ribbons for the wedding, and afterwards if the ribbons fall off she will still have a glitter wand to play with. (But if she knows there is a glitter wand underneath, she might start peeling the ribbons early, so it could be a surprise for later?)

i think it depends what kind of little girl she is. i know quite a few little ones that would be so smitten with the idea of being in a wedding and having a “job” that they would act like little prim and proper angels.
if you want your flower girl carying a pomander i don’t see why you can’t give it to her right before she walks down the isle.

I agree with Lauren. Most flower girls I know are really good beforehand during the ceremony and a short time after that. But they are kids so once the formal stuff is done they normally let loose. 4 years old is a good age so I bet she would be fine with something delicate for a short amount of time. Just make sure she has taken a nap prior to the event so she is well rested and not cranky.

I don’t think its too much at all (maybe because I’m doing the same haha). I’m glad you liked the idea. =)
