About Mrs. Strawberry

Question. So… if an engagement party is being thrown in your honor, it’s probably rude not to show up, right? I mean people will probably notice. Right? Yeah… I have a major problem.

My engagement party has been planned for months now. About 50 people have been sent invites, we rented out a small bar and I even have a new dress. Oh, it’s also next Saturday night.

My problem is this: I start my new part-time *dream* job at a radio station that Saturday. I have to be on-air during my party. Hilarious joke.

Best case scenario? I talk to my boss and push back my start date. Worst case? I show up hours past the party start time. Oh, Universe. I just love it when you mess with me! :)

Well congratulations on your new job! I am excited for you, but you do have a dilemma don’t you? Well, tell me where I can hear you, here in Seattle.

If you can’t show up till hours late, those gals better all be tuning in to your radio show! Man that is a sucky situation, I will keep my fingers crossed for you that you can push back your start date. I take it there’s no chance of changing the date of the party?

maybe at the e-party they could tune in while you’re on air and then you can show up after you’re done! :D i’m sure they would all understand especially since this is a job you’ve wanted! i know i would understand and they could either show up a little later or have a listening pre-party :) good luck!

I think it’s okay for me to say that she’ll be on Movin’ 92.5 in Seattle, Saturday’s and Sunday’s from 3-7. :-) Very fun station!

Hmmm, career vs. marriage/personal life…

I think Ms Poppy has the best solution! If you’re on from 3-7, there’s still plenty of partying to be done later. I think it would be awesome for the e-party to listen to you on the air, and you meet up with them later!

(Maybe send an email to that effect so people won’t stress if they show up late.)

If you tell your new employer that you were JUST let in on the secret long-planned surprise party because your family learned of the time conflict, maybe you will be allowed to change the shift? Employers seem to be pretty respectful of wedding obligations. Transparency would be a good way to get off on the right foot.

If this is a new job — Did you already commit to working that shift? Or could you accept the job with a commitment to start the following week?
