Reading Is Fun

At what age do you think the ring bearers and flower girls can remember the experience? I ask because our FG and RB are both going to be four, and I hope the wedding is a fun experience for them. My cousin Karen, the FG’s mom, thanked me for giving her daughter a memory like this one.

To help the kids remember their important role in the wedding, there are a ton of books out there specifically directed towards them.

I found some picture books, like this one called “The Little Flower Girl” by Linda Trace Brandon. The story centers around a young girl who is going to be part of her uncle’s wedding. .

A classic series, Babar (by Harry N. Abrams), now has a special book geared towards the Flower Girl in our lives. Called “Babar, Isabelle the Flower Girl“, it’s like most of the flower girl books nowadays with “lessons” on what to do the day of.

Something fun for the flower girl to do, is an activity book. There is a book of flower girl paper dolls, which may be a little dated, but still super cute! This book is called “Little Flower Girls Sticker Paper Dolls“, and it’s by Barbara Steadman.

z808763 Don’t think the flower girls get to have all the fun!! The book “The Ring Bearer” by Laura Godwin is all about a young boy’s day as ring bearer. Although it may seem a little oversweet with the rhyming and pastelish colors, the little guy manages to get himself into some trouble on the big day. And I think all little guys can appreciate that!z808772

I think this next book is the cutest and funniest thing ever. It’s called “The Ring Bear” by N.L. Sharp. Obviously, you tell a little boy he’s going to be the ring BEARER in your wedding, and he hears (or wants to hear) ring BEAR. While he finds out that he’s not going to get to be an actual bear in the wedding, he CAN act like one during the reception! Yeah, this may not be the best thing to teach your ring bearer, but it’s cute!

I’m hoping our wedding will be a fun experience for the kids, and not just a chore. Maybe getting them some fun books could help!

i was a flowergirl in a wedding when i was 3 or 4. To be honest, I remember only snippets of the actual day but omigod it was the HUGEST event in my little life!! i felt so important. i dreamt of it constantly for months before it happened and spent hours upon hours “practicing” tossing petals on my driveway. they’ll be thrilled no matter what you do.

The parents of my little flower girls have told me (separately) that they catch their daughters secretly practicing. How cute is that? I also bought all our little ones some of the books you mentioned. For the flower girls, the older ones received “The Little Flower Girl” (the first one you posted) and the younger ones received “The Flower Girl” (the girl version of “The Ring Bearer” one that you posted. We got “The Ring Bearer” for our ring bearer, but we couldn’t find books for the other bearers. We ended buying them Veggie Tales books instead. :-)

i’m a first grade teacher and a newer flower book that came out last year is called “lilly’s big day” by kevin henkes. it’s a lot quirkier and funnier than your average flower girl books, but the girls are sure to love it as they grow up :) lilly is also the star of 2 other books that are equally as hilarious
