Don’t Mock Me

March 24th, 2007 @ 4:15 pm by Mrs. Pearl

Our mockup is here…woohoooooooooooooo!!!

On the recommendation of frequent Weddingbee poster wsukarebear, I contacted Tara from Ephemera Press after my previous letterpress invitation plans fell through. Tara is based out of the Seattle area, so our work was done through mail and email. Her samples were really cute and she really seemed excited about working with my vision/theme, not to mention her pricing was reasonable…at least, as reasonable as letterpress can be!

The “theme” info was: chocolate brown and blush, ostrich plumes, 1920s elegance.

Tara sent me an email several days ago with mock-ups of our invitation. I LOOOOVE them and am trying to decide between the following designs (or, if needed, combining elements of each of the designs to produce a great vision):

1.

2.

3.

The ostrich plume design will be letterpressed onto cream colored cardstock in blush pink, while the writing will be done in chocolate brown.

Soooooooo…what do you think? Which design do you like the best? Any suggestions for change?

Wow! Those are going to look great!

I like #2 the best, because with all the curvy-ness of the plumes and your names, I think the blockier text is a nice contrast. (do you like my technical jargon? ;) ) I also like the font fo your names better, but cannot explain why.

They all look wonderful, though…Can’t wait to see the finished product!

I like #3 and the the only reason why it’s because it’s all centered. =)

i like #3 also for the same reason as janet and because i think the font looks the best.

I like #2 as well… it a great contrast and speaks of the formality with the backdrop of elegant lines of the plumes/feathers.

The colors are wonderfully subtle as well.

I also like #2, as it has the location address in a place that can be easily found, especially if your guests are using the actual invite to get themselves to said location.

I like #2 as well - I think the block letters are a nice contrast to the plumes. I think it also makes your eyes focus on your names.

i like 3. it doesn’t look as busy. very pretty!

I like a combination of 2 & 3. I prefer the overall font of 3- but I like the upwards curliques of the first letters in 2 and how the spacing of the block wording fills the invite. I also like the spacer decoration between the ceremony & reception information on 3.

I like #3 because of a well balance between art and writing. Can you add colors to the ostrich? That will truly bring out your design.

love #3

I like #2. It has just enough plumes. I like the font in your names..this is just me but I like the balance of the scripts in both your names. I don’t like the lower case “m”. The font in CAPS looks really good on the swirly plumes. It looks nice and tight. The only thing is I would suggest is having “Reception following” be center.

Miss Plum says:

3 with 2’s font - maybe doing it in the reverse colors? I think it could look really great if it was printed on a darker color like chocolate text on blush paper or even cream text on chocolate paper? :) Looks great though! :)

I like #2–I like the way that it’s all *not* centered, it makes the reception bit stand out. And I think it’s a good idea to have the actual info written in a block font so there’s no confusion. Although I also like the symmetry of having it all in one font. It’s hard for me to see, but make sure that the font you choose is readable–the names aren’t so important, people know your names, but you don’t want them to misread the time or the address or something! I’ve seen invitations where it was difficult to decipher important information. One other thing–I think it looks odd if your name doesn’t have a title but his does. On formal invitaitons, it’s like that because it usually has “Mr and Mrs Mom and Dad request your presence at the marriage of their daughter, Pearl Bee to Mr. Pearl…” You don’t get a title because your the “daughter of.” But since your the hostess here, you should have a Ms or a Miss. In my opinion. The funny thing is that I’ve recently started enjoying being called Miss Pencils instead of Ms. It sounds so spinsterish, especially at my age, so I did all my wedding stuff as Miss Pencils. Might as well use it while I can!

Anyway, they’re lovely invitations. :)

Sorry, Mrs Bee, my cat jumped on the keyboard and it somehow posted three times when I was trying to correct my spelling! Can you delete the first two? I’m so embarassed. Bad Agatha!

I love all the designs, and like Pencils, I also think that either you both have titles or you both omit titles.

I like #3 and I love Tara! Glad you connected with her. I do all my communication via phone or email because she’s actually a little over an hour away from me. She’s very flexible. I’ll post my mock-ups on my blog, tonight! :-)

I actually like #2’s typefaces and #3’s layout (with the squiggly and the reception info). Keep us posted!

Those are nice! I love the look of letterpress invitations, but don’t think I can afford them! Are there any good alternatives for that rich look and feeling, other than just printing on nice nice paper? Or are there any cheap letterpress companies, if I provide a design? (I have about $1/invitation to spend, so I’m figuring it’s not going to happen….)

#3 for sure!
