Bad Hair Life

March 26th, 2007 @ 12:17 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

Ladies and gents, I have hair trouble. Most of the time, I hate my hair. Thanks to the wavy texture of my shoulder-blade length hair, my hair is all over the place. There are pieces around my face that don’t just have a curl to them, they curl close to the face and then straighten, leaving me looking like a poodle on a staticky day.

This is me without any sort of hair product.

Okay, that’s a bit drastic, but you get my drift. In the morning, I pull all my hair up into a messy bun or a ponytail. I rarely use anything in my hair because I’m not fond of the heaviness or the “crunchy” texture. So, my hair is all smooth in the morning, but by the end of the day I look like the picture above.

My hair has a mind of its own, and can’t stand it. The little pieces aren’t long enough to be pulled back, and don’t have any discernible direction it grows in. This leaves me a little worried for the “big day”. I don’t want to look like a poodle, nor do I want to look like this:

Now, I know I need to tame the wild sprigs of hair I have, but I don’t want it to be crunchy, either. Can anyone recommend a good hair product that can tame those hairs, but not leave it stiff?

L’Oreal makes a product called Melting Gel…It really works, and you aren’t left with crunchy hair!

LOL at that monkey picture…that just made my day :)

I also have wild, untameable hair and I found that certain Chi products helped out my hair.

I have wavy/curly hair that tends to be quite frizzy. I also don’t like crunchy products, so I use conditioner - very liberally. Just apply to hair out of the shower while it’s drying… totally helps and leaves hair really soft (and smelling nice!). My hair is so thick and dry that it’s not a problem getting greasy or anything.. just really helps with keeping it nice and smooth!

I’m a big fan of John Frieda’s Sheer Blonde “Spotlight.” I don’t see why it’s only for blondes, it’s transparent. It’s a leave-in conditioner, silkener, detangler–I have a lot of hair, and I put in about two quarters’-size worth, and my hair is SO much better afterward. I never go without it.

since i’m mixed, my hair can be quite fussy. it’s naturally wavy/curly and thick, not always a great combination. when i was younger my hair did the same, all nice and smooth in the morning and then i came home from school looking less like the adorable elementary school kid i left as and more like don king. on a good day. lol.

even though my hair is now chemically relaxed it’s still can be a handful. i use leave in conditioner sometimes to keep it smooth and hydrated, i don’t have a go to product. oh, and a frizz smoother when i blow dry my hair into mock submission [it really has a mind of its own]. i forget the name of it but i don’t get it too often because it’s a tad expensive. if i remember the name i’ll let you know.

It sounds like we have really similar hair! I’ve been using Pantene Curl Defining Scrunching Gel lately. It works pretty well–I put it in my hair when I get out of the shower, scrunch with my fingers, and then let it air dry. It dries wavy and pretty. It’s a gel, so there is a bit of “crunchiness” at the top of my head as it’s drying, but it goes away if it just run my fingers through the crunchy bits.

I love John Freida Brilliant Brunette Shine Shock. It’s a styling gel/conditioner/shine booster and I just comb a dollop through my hair every day before I blow dry. There’s also a great volumizing gel from Pantene that isn’t sticky if you put it in wet and blow-dry.

I have hair that is annoyingly wavy, but not curly enough to actually wear curly. If I let it air dry or try to blow dry without product, I just end up with a poofy, frizzy mess. I have found that L’Oreal Studio-line HeatSeeker Straightening Cream does the trick for me. I work a dime-size dallop through my shoulder-length hair while its still wet, then blowdry like normal. It definitely gets rid of the frizzies and then when I use my straight iron, it gives it amazing shine. It also lasts all day even if its super humid out!

I have stick-straight Asian hair, and I always wanted a perm. I got a Japanese digital perm (supposed to be healthier for your hair and leaves more natural-looking curls) and I loved the results when I left the salon. But when I had to style it myself, I found that my hair was always left frizzy. I tried SOOO many products until I found the perfect one just last month: Redken Outshine 01 Anti-Frizz Polishing Milk. Now people are always complimenting me on my loose, natural waves!

whoever does your hair should have some suggestions. honestly, my hair person is just using a ton of hairspray on my hair.

daily, i use kiehl’s grooming creme with silk or bumble & bumble’s grooming cream.

Glass by Redken, just a few drops a day does the trick. Also, I dry my hair with a hairdryer, but just to get it dry, then comb it out and use the glass drops. Works great.

I think my hair might be pretty similar to yours; I have had some good luck with a product called Hair Brushing Foam, by DHC. It is weightless and nicely moisturizing, but it might not have enough hold for you. Anyway, here is the product, you can consider checking it out!
