In today’s hive:

  1. Emily is looking for blue and white seersucker dresses for 3 girls in her wedding (ages 10, 11, 12). Any suggestions on where to find them cheap?
  2. Bebe wants her personalized ribbon to say “thank you” in Greek, but is having trouble finding someone that will do Greek letters. Any suggestions?
  3. VB wants to get an embosser for the return address on her std’s. She and her fiance have the same last name intial, so will it seem weird to have a monogram with their first initials and last name inital? She doesn’t want people to get the wrong idea especially because she’s keeping her last name.
  4. AK is looking for a nontraditional outdoor venue in Virginia, W. Virginia or Maryland for 200-300 guests. Something rustic, casual and simple, as most outdoor venues they’ve looked at are too formal. Any tips on finding hidden vendors?
  5. elise wants to know how much your florists charged you for hanging lanterns. She’s purchasing the lanterns and her florist is charging for labor.
  6. MMM is looking for monogrammed ribbons for her bouquet, and someone to do a monogrammed dress label.

2. bebe, how about getting a custom stamp made and stamping your own ribbon, if you’re DIY inclined?

VB, even though your last names both begin with the same letter, I’ve heard that monograms are usually saved for after you are married (so you could use it on your favors and thank you cards, but perhaps hold off on using it on your STDs).

Does anyone have a good recommendation of someone that does monogrammed ribbons for your bouqet. I am also looking for someone to do a monogrammed dress label.

bebe, I would suggest maybe contacting a company that does stuff for sororities - they should be able to print Greek Letters! I bet there are lots of companies that make cute ribbons and stuff.

VB - We are using my fiance’s last name monogram for the band that’s going around the save the date card. I’m not planning to change my name but I don’t see anything awkward about using his initial for the little details of the wedding. Just my two cents.

AK - I went to a wedding a couple of years ago at the Woodend Nature Sanctuary in Chevy Chase, MD. Here’s the website: http://www.audubonnaturalist.org/cgi-bin/mesh/site_rentals/maryland

It was rustic and elegant, not too formal. It was off Conn Ave just outside the Beltway.

Bebe-If you know what you’re doing, definitely go to greek101.com or other Greek (sorority/fraternity) companies. I only suggest that you know what you’re doing because I don’t think they actually know anything about Greek words or writing, minus two or three letters in a row. :-)

Elise-It really depends on what you’re looking for. I have a centerpiece of three hanging lanterns that hold votives (pics in my blog under centerpieces) and they were like 13 dollars at Michaels (craft store).

Help!

Would anyone know how I could check to see if a particular day is “lucky” on the Chinese calendar? I couldn’t care less, but I have parents who would like to know. :P Thus, if anyone has a website or knows where I can find this information, please let me know. There are usually calendars which come out, but this would be too late for us to plan.

Thanks ahead of time!

I just have a general question..how come most of the preparations for a wedding is done by the bride only? How come the majority of grooms dont get involved with the wedding planning?

Hi! I’m getting married at the Museum of Flight in Seattle in September. I need a DJ! I’ve found a ton of DJ websites, but I want to find someone who is actually recommended by someone! I’m trying to avoid a cheesy DJ or one that ruins the party mood we want. Thanks!

Anyone have any unique guestbook ideas? I dont want to do a regular guestbook or signature mat. I was thinking of having a “wishing tree” instead of a wish bowl and guests could write their message on a little piece of paper and hang it on a branch. Anyone seen this done or have any pictures? Any other unique ideas? Thanks!!!

m - I think Miss Strawberry had an entry about that. You should look at her past entries. She had a picture of something like that.

Emily: Here is a site for seersucker dresses

http://threaddesign.com/collections/pages/i515_18.php

M: I am not having a guest book. Now that is unique. Ever ask anyone what they do with those things anyway?

Julie: If you are getting married at the Museaum of Flight you can afford a live band.

Lisa: I’ve been trying to find “lucky” dates at the request of my parents too. The first weblink (Sina) provides a detailed chart based on the month, date, and year entered. The second link (ChinaWed) lists all the auspicious dates for 2007 only. Both pages are written in Chinese. If you’re like me and can’t read it, then the 3rd website will be helpful in at least recognizing the characters for marriage, lucky, and unlucky days.

I picked my wedding date early this year, so I was able to verify that my date was considered lucky in both Sina and ChinaWed. Double assurance for my family…hehe…

Keep in mind that these websites originate from HK/China, so a Sunday is actually a Saturday in the U.S. At least, that’s how I justified the reason behind picking my wedding date. =) The Sina website actually goes into auspicious hours if your parents are into that.

Hope this helps and good luck with the planning!

I was wondering if there are any great ideas for wedding thank yous. I DIY’d my invites and we all spend so much time on them that I would like to know what brides are doing for their thank you’s. Any unique DIY projects out there besides the knottie thank you photo?
