I got it. Over 10 months into wedding preparation I now understand.

Now that things are winding down, vendors are booked, and parties are complete, I’ve realized how much this wedding has taken over one year of my life. Initially my wedding intentions were to project fun (I love projects) for everyone including Mr. Apple, my maid of honor, family, and friends. But to my disapointment, no one enjoyed it as much as me. Hence, the introduction of Xanga then Weddingbee. :)

I think weddings can definitely become too media frenzied and we begin to lose focus. I got tunnel vision. I definitely did. I wanted to buy anything that was unique and cute - sometimes money did not matter. icon_sad.gif I think after this weekend’s mini fiasco though, I’ve learned to throttle back a little and take time to enjoy Mr. Apple and my engagement. We spent some time the past couple of days catching up with his work updates, gardening together, and just holding one another. We haven’t done any wedding planning and it’s been really nice.

Have you reached this point yet? How long into wedding planning did it take? If so, how has it affected your wedding planning?

I’m getting married on 8/4, and this weekend my fiance and I took Monday off to just bum around the city and hang out with each other. It was the first time we’d done this (just had a “date” weekend) in AGES…and it was great! With just over 4 months to go, I’m over all the details, etc. I just can’t wait to be married. Reconnecting during this crazy time is so, so important. Glad to see this post.

I’m also more than ready to be done with the planning. I want my free time back and I will be very happy to no longer be preoccupied with trivial, material details (perfect dress, perfect shoes, perfect earrings, ugh) and also no longer dealing with wedding related family stress. I’m ready to be married to my wonderful FI, which is all that matters.

It is so funny you posted this because I posted a similar blog about two weeks ago… I had my fiasco, my mental breakdown, and now I feel more relieved since the day we got engaged… I had often wondered if brides had this moment… this realization that most everything is done, and now its time to enjoy… and does it last until the I Dos?? (Note: wedding day 66 days away for me)

Reading this post sort of gives me anxiety. My bf and I are in the pre-planning/ring-shopping phase. I am just waiting for the official “green light” if you will before I begin the actual wedding planning. It all seems so overwhelming and I give all the bees so many props for planning AND blogging. Miss Apple and others, what do you suggest for planners-to-bee and how to avoid the breakdown?

Hey Miss Apple,
We’ve been gardening all week! :) Yes, I think we’ve reached that point especially when the vendors are booked. We just want it to happen already so we can go on with our lives together. This week has been so nice. Working together as a team in the garden. Then making homecooked dinners, and snuggling by the tv. Going to bed at decent hour and waking up without feeling rushed.

What a great question Virginny!

For me, I think the wedding planning so far is going smoothly and I have yet to feel overly stressed. I think the reason I broke down last weekend was because I was trying to accomodate everyone else. I didn’t feel like they were appreciative and all they could do was complain and frown their faces at me. -(

So most important is to never try to accomodate others too much. There should be a good balance. Do what you want. As hard as it can be with so many people involved, you’re top priority.

I also think budgeting for a wedding planner is wise. Dependent on how 1) how much control you’d like 2) Organized you are 3) how much detail you would like your wedding to be - are all critical. They can relieve alot of the unneccssary wedding stress.

Take one or two days off of wedding planning a week (if you do it everyday) and spend it with Mr. Virginny. -)

I will try to give you more once the wedding comes closer! Good luck! -)

I definitely feel like I’m at the “breakdown” phase right now. Hopefully soon I’ll come out of it a new woman!

Yup. 2 months into wedding planning, FI and I had the biggest fight ever and I broke down. I placed too much emphasis on getting everything perfect that FI and I started drifting apart. Not anymore. Now, we try to focus on getting ready for our life together and not fuss so much about getting details that are less-than-perfect for a wedding that’ll only last a day anyway. COncretely, this means not using up all of our weekends for wedding errands. We promised each other we’d have one day just for us to relax, have fun, be with each other, etc.

I am VERY ready for wedding planning to be over. There are nine weeks until the wedding, and although I’m enjoying it, the stress is just getting too much for me. Right now we really need to go to the tasting, meet with the baker, and finalize the menu, but my fiance works a very odd schedule and has few weekends off. We have money to spend, but I’m feeling guilty about my expenditures (although they’re quite reasonable, I’m definitely a budget bride), and I’m feeling guilty about the costs of the attendants clothes. On top of all that, I’m dealing with some serious health issues and I’m having difficulty getting tests scheduled, issues with doctors and their staffs, all that sort of fun, which is compounded by the fact that I’m sick and not feeling up to dealing with it. I can’t wait for the last day of work before my wedding. Then everything will be finished and I can concentrate on having a lovely wedding and a great honeymoon!
