6 Random/Weird Things About Me

March 29th, 2007 @ 2:52 pm by Mrs. Bee

This little poll has been making the circuit around blogs the past couple of months. I thought it’d be a fun thing for the bees to do since we seldom talk about nonwedding related topics, and it’ll give you guys a chance to learn some fun tidbits about us. :)

I’ll start!

1. I was a blonde baby. People in Korea thought that I was adopted. Even up til high school people refused to believe that I was full Korean and thought I was half-white.

2. I beat all my friend’s moms in arm wrestling.

3. I like to pick things up with my feet. And pinch people with my toes too. My aunt curses the day I taught my 5 year old cousin this talent.

4. My parents never bought me a barbie doll so I used water balloons as dolls. I would twist them so they’d have a head and a body. But sometimes they would pop. That would make me sad.

5. My second toe is longer than the first one.

6. I don’t really like sweets. Or chocolate for that matter.

Now tell us a random/weird thing about you!

Wow Mrs Bee,

I am with you from 3 to 6, but definitely NOT the being blonde part and winning arm wrestling part. :) Until today, I am still taking grief over not liking chocolate and having feet like hands.

I went through 3 years of high school without ever ever wearing closed toe shoes.

I’m a whitey born with black rabbit-fur hair, which promptly fell out and grew back in blonde for the rest of my life. So it goes both ways…

OK, dunno if this qualifies, but it’s funny!

When I came out and the doctors told my mom, “Congrats, it’s a girl!”, she responded, “No, it’s a boy, I’m supposed to have a boy!” She was convinced that I was a boy due to Chinese superstition and was trying to convince the doctors that they had made a mistake!

Don’t everyone pick up things with their feet/toes? God wouldn’t have given us flexible toes if he didn’t want us to use’em. ;)

1. I’m not really six feet tall, but I say I am! (I’m 5′ 11.25″)
2. I can read three different writing systems, and several dead languages. Or I could, I’ve forgotten a lot.
3. My last name is the same as a great mathematician’s, but I’m dyslexic with numbers and symbols (which made learning cuneiform really difficult.)
4. I didn’t much like Barbies as a kid, I preferred my hippie Sunshine Family dolls. (Look ‘em up, they were also from Mattel, introduced in the early 70s.)
5. I’m a professional science fiction and fantasy geek.
6. I’m getting married in two months and I still don’t have a wedding ring!

I was bald until I was two, and then I grew tons of hair and have had a full head of hair since. I also won a relay race with my flexible toes

Amnesia

1. I once was a guinea pig in a neuroscience experiment (They put gel on my head, attached sensors and monitored my reaction times to a computer program)
2. When I was sixteen, I once made $10 from a stranger by pouting for coffee
3. I’ve ghostwritten a chapter of a book on investment risk.
4. I was detained my airline officials when I was 13 because I had tried to lie about my age and board early with the 12 and under group. When caught, I was so embarrassed that I refused to tell them my age, and they had to call my parents. It was another 3 hours before they put me on a plane home.
5. I repeatedly, randomly connect with the same people (much to the amazement of those around me)–As an example, I once invited a group of (essentially) random aquaintances to stay at my house in one large metropolitan city but learned that I had met one of the same people before, two years earlier, in another random situation, different metropolitan area and different part of the country. It happens a lot.
6. I have an uncanny knack for attracting chaos. Seriously. So I try plan an extra amount of time into any travel experience, business interview, etc., etc., because the most unexplainable set of things will go awry (often, repeatedly). Classic example– when in school, we were in a competition on the east coast. On the way home, our flight was delayed leaving New York, so we missed the connectiong in Detroit and were put up in a hotel overnight. It was late March. A random blizzrd hit that night and cancelled all of the flights the next day and they couldn’t get us on a flight home. They lost our luggage and we spent all day trying to at least locate that. At 3pm, we decided to try driving. We made it halfway home (home was about a 7 hour drive), but then stopped when a car slid off the road and almost hit the reastaurant where we were eating dinner. We made it home 48 hours later than planned.
