Beehive

March 29th, 2007 @ 6:05 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  1. Sumo asks what the proper way to address invitation envelopes to indicate that children are invited, because they’re not using inner envelopes. She’s heard that people don’t like to add “and family.”
  2. Miss Kakerwhart is looking for a good place to purchase placecards.
  3. marvil’s FSIL is looking for boxes for DIY invitations.

sumo: you should write their proper names under their parents.

hi Sumo - I’m indicating that the children are invited by addressing the invites with “The family.” For example: To the Brown family. I don’t know if that’s proper etiquette but it works for me =)

Samantha says:

http://www.paper-source.com is a good place for place cards and just about all other paper needs.

The Emily Posts of weddings say “don’t add ‘family’ to the invites” but I did! I didn’t use inner envelopes either and I wanted invites to more fun than formal. Also, those with families don’t care if what the “proper” thing is–they would care if i left out my little cousins and second cousins from the invites and wedding.

FSIL trying to send invitations in boxes. Where can she find boxes for diy invitations?

Mrs. Bee says:

marvil - try papermart. they have a grande selection.

Sumo - since kids love to see their names on mail (especially (ooh!) a wedding invitation), we’re putting the children’s names on the outer and inner envelopes - “Mr. and Mrs. John Doe” on the first line, with “and Sally and Nathaniel” on the second.

I have a $960.00 gift certificate for Tiffany & Co. My fiance and I are not using it toward our wedding bands and there is nothing there that I want. Is anyone else buying their bands or anything else from Tiffany’s that would buy the gift card off of my hands?

sumo - our invites were very informal (in inside cards either) and we added their names on the outside ie: John, Susan, Johnny & Gracie Doe - unless there were 3 or more kids and then we made it John & Susan Doe and kids. We changed it to ‘and boys’ or etc if they only have boys and we dropped the ‘and kids’ part about half a line below the parents names. Thats also how we added the ‘and guest’ line.

Emily Post would probably have a heart attack - so its good that she’s already gone!

question! I had never heard of a grooms cake til I started reading all these wedding websites. I like the idea of doing something for my fiance who doesn’t really like cake but loves ice cream cakes. I’m trying to figure out if I can surpise him with a grooms ice cream cake but I’m not sure about practicality issues (melting..) - any suggestions?

What is one thing that you had to have on your registry? How did you know what brand of kitchen appliance to register for? How do you know whats good?

Does anyone have any advice on questions to ask references of wedding planners? (Besides what did they like about dealing with the person/didn’t like, etc.)

Question:

I want to do personalized napkins, but rather than a monogram or the date or whatever, I want them to have “fun facts” or “trivia” on them, maybe about us. You know, something fun. Any suggestions?

How about how long they were onsite? One reference i talked to told me they had to really twist the gals arm and demand that she not take off after she walked down the aisle….

Birdcage Seeker says:

I have been having such a difficult time trying to reach Georgie Peach for a birdcage veil with feather. Then I realized that she is not taking new orders indefinitely. Does anyone know where I can get a birdcage veil with some sort of decoration? I am not very crafty so I would much prefer buying it. Thanks a lot!

For tipperella…ask the references if they could have changed one thing about the service provided, what would it have been?

Any payless shoe store offers this service; it takes 10 business days.
