Cherry Blossom Branches

March 30th, 2007 @ 2:11 pm by Mrs. Raspberry

For all you cherry blossom brides who are lucky enough to have scheduled your wedding during the 2 week period - which fluctuates - when they are in bloom, and for all you brides (including me) who wish we had the cherry blossoms for our weddings….

Cherry Blossom Branches : wedding flowers Img 0010.JPG

I cut these branches while working in our garden last night. They were so pretty I had to share. They would be great as centerpieces or to make into a wish tree in lieu of a guest book.

If you are lucky enough to catch the short blooming period for flowering branches during your wedding, how are you using them?

cherry blossoms are so pretty, and in my wedding colors — pink and brown! thanks for sharing the beautiful photo. if i wasn’t getting married in hawaii where there is an abundance of lovely tropicals (like pink plumeria!) i TOTALLY would have used cherry blossoms in my centerpieces AND in my bouquets. i dunno how that would have looked — long branches sticking out of my bouquets — but i would have found a way to make it work =P

Okay I am officially excited. I am getting married in August, missing the cherry blossom season by a very wide margin, which was disappointing to me, because I fell in love with cherry blossoms a long time ago. I was, in fact, just talking to my fiance on the weekend about whether it would be weird to use a cherry blossom design on invitations if they would be nowhere to be seen in the wedding.

I am SO going to do fake ones for table centrepieces! My mum and I have been having trouble agreeing on a centrepiece idea. I don’t want a typical floral centrepiece. I was leaning towards a tall vase filled with water and a branch of cymbidium orchids submerged in the water, but my mom thinks it’s too minimalist (which is sort of what I was going for. Unfortunately my mom and I have wildly different tastes when it comes to decor).

Anyway I’ve been trying to find a way to
a) incorporate cherry blossoms into the decor to tie into invitations even though they won’t be in season
b) find a centrepiece idea that my mom and I both like, that isn’t too minimalist AND isn’t simply a floral bouquet.

Ta da! Fake cherry blossom branches are it.

Ever since I got engaged, I wanted cherry blossoms. Real ones may be out of reach for my late May wedding, but I am going to try to make those nifty paper and branch versions I’ve seen on Martha Stewarts website… very cute and creative. And much cheaper… unless I had a tree forever in bloom.

Yes, you can go to Flyboy Naturals Freeze Dried Petals and they have some Hydrangea Petals that will pass as cherry blossoms. In fact, they have been used in movies for that same thing. Memoirs of a Geisha.

Whiteaisle branches are disappointing in person. I ordered some and don’t like them at all.

yeah - i ordered 2 branches from whiteaisle - just to see and i was VERY disappointed, especially since they were $6 each and shipping was also $6. definitely not worth the cost.

o!!

i ordered some branches from DTI (ChristmasFlorals.com) and although their cherry blossoms were sold out — we got their apple blossom branches — and LOVE them!

(the white flowers will show up better in a dimly lit room too)
