There was a post on lip treatments to make your lips weddinglicious a few months ago that caught my eye, because my lips are very sensitive. I don’t mean sensitive to touch and things like that, I mean really sensitive to sun and makeup. It’s a huge pain because my lips start puffing up, and the area around my mouth gets pink - looks like I just drank some cherry Kool-Aid. Anyway, I’m always on the lookout for something that works, and isn’t addictive.
Bath and Body Works was mentioned in the comments, and I decided to try it out. So, Mr. Kiwi and I headed over there after a hearty dinner at TGI Friday’s, and bought up a storm.
I decided to try a few of the products mentioned, like the C.O. Bigelow Mentha Lip Shine. It’s infused with mint to give you fresh breath. While it did hold true to it’s “shine” label, it was also very gloppy. Kinda thick and a little gross to apply. I don’t think it’s right for me, since I tend to lick off all the tasty mint goodness, and my lips end up looking the same. Before I lick it off, the shine to my lips is a little distracting.

I also got the tinted version, red/brown. Although I thought it would be cute… yeah, it looks bad on me. It honestly looks like I was just vampiring on someone’s neck. I also think the gloss just isn’t right for me. Besides the red/brown, they also have pink and nude shines.

While we were waiting in line, I happened to see some lip balm sticks by The Savannah Bee Company. I love beeswax for lips, since the usual petroleum in lip balms seems to aggravate my lips. We picked up three kinds of lip balm, a blackberry tint, a tupelo honey tint, and an untinted tupelo honey.
Blackberry, Tupelo Tinted, Untinted Tupelo:

By far, my favorite is the blackberry. Not only does it smell fantastic, but it also leaves a subtle shine and leaves your lips feeling moisturized but not waxy. I read once that the perfect lip color for a person is a color matching the inside of your bottom lip. This blackberry lip tint does that perfectly. My lips are usually pale (don’t know why), and it gives me the color I need, without looking overdone. All it takes is a swipe, and I’m ready to go.
The tupelo tint is kind of dark, and looks good layered over something else, but usually I just don’t bother. The tupelo smelled good initially, but now it’s a bit cloying. Mr. Kiwi has the untinted version, and would rather use the vanilla sugar lip balm he snagged while in line, instead. He said he just likes the SPF, but I know he likes to smell like cookies.
Anyway, that’s the rundown of the items I picked up. I think you guys should totally pick up the Savannah Bee Co. lip balm, since it’s fabulous!!
c.o. bigelow’s tinted one works perfectly for me. i love when it goes on sale at b&bw. otherwise, i stick to classic chapstick brand (i think the moisture one that’s blue is the one i usually stock up on).
glad you found something that works for you.
