Monumental DUH/PSA: RSVP Envelopes

March 30th, 2007 @ 2:27 pm by Mrs. Pearl

I got an email from our invitation designer Tara from Ephemera Letterpress with the final drafts of our wedding invitations.

*eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee* (that’s my bridal squeal). They are gorgeous! Mr. Pearl and I looked at the final draft and were ready to send the final approval when we both stopped short. The RSVP address. It’s our current address…but we’re moving at the end of July when our lease is up (and the RSVP date is after that time).

In the words of Homer Simpson, “DOH!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

When you give your RSVP address, be sure to think about future events (like if you plan to move). That could have caused a lot of unnecessary heartache!

at least you’ll be getting your mail forwarded…a little bit of delay, but you’ll probably have to make phone calls anyway for the slow responders.

I had the same issue. We ended up paying for a PO box at a post office near my work. I’ll be excited to starting checking it on a daily basis leading up to July 21!! :)

I LOVE getting mail so sending the RSVPs to a family address would have been disappointing. Plus we don’t even live in the same state as any family.

What’s your solution?

I was going to suggest what Robyn is doing. If having a Post Office box is too expensive (or out of the way), Kinkos and UPS Stores have the same thing. Local shipping places like that do too.

If not, the mail should forward to you in a reasonable time, just make sure you fill out the forms at your local post office!

Yeah, that’s what we’re doing. Today, Mr. Pearl is in charge of setting up the PO Box so that we can get our invites sent there. I didn’t want to send it to our families because getting the cards from them would be a colossal pain (his family lives about 30-45 minutes away and are SUPER disorganized with their mail and my family is in another state).

The forwarding of our post office is notoriously horrible. The tenants who lived at my apartment before me had a forwarding order which the postman ignored. I had to gather up the mail and bring it back to the post office WEEKLY with their forwarding address written on it. Such a pain. I also got some mail forwarded to me that had been sent a month prior (and consequently missed the event that the mailing was for). So yeah, definitely didn’t want to chance it!
