Vendor Extravaganza!

March 30th, 2007 @ 1:12 pm by Mrs. Bluebell

Wish the Bluebells luck, guys, we have back to back vendor meetings from 10:30 to 5:00 tomorrow! That’s practically an entire workday!!! And it’s an hour and a half away from where we’ll be staying, so that really will end up being about as long as I’m usually away from home during the week. Sigh. But I can’t complain too much! Because we’re….

1) Getting free brunch from our caterer (yes I know we’re giving them a WHOOOLE lot more money than a brunch costs, but it’s a nice gesture nonetheless!) while we discuss all the food stuff & linens

2) Eating lots and lots of cake at the baker to choose which one we want. Soooo not complaining about this part. laughin011 And choosing a design too!

3) Hanging out at what is supposedly “The Best Coffee Shop In The Country” with our florist to work on flower details.

There’s actually a wee break between 2 and 3, but it’s not like we’ll want to go relax in a cafe during that time. Hehe. But we are hoping to try and find a dress for my mom during the interval (or at least figure out what type of dress she wants) so that should be fun too! Wish us luck!!!

Next week: Updates on my crazy weekend…plus my first dress fitting!!! laughin011

He proposed exactly 1 year, 1 month and 6 days after our first date (it's the only part of his proposal speech that I remember), and we're planning long-distance from Los Angeles for a July wedding in my hometown of Monterey, CA. I have a passion for all things "cool, cute and quirky" and I enjoy video games, reading blogs (WeddingBee, trashy celeb, consumer & political) and crafting in my spare time, if I have any!

Who Doesn’t Like A Parade?

March 30th, 2007 @ 12:40 pm by Mrs. Lemon

Who Doesn't Like A Parade? : wedding los angeles 24150301 2415030

Every year, Monterey throws a big ‘ol “Backyard BBQ” party for the Fourth of July, complete with a parade, all-day activities and a big fireworks show over the bay at night. And thanks to my darling Dad, Mr. Lemon and I will be in the parade! My mom and dad will be driving his ‘37 Ford Sedan in the parade and celebrating their wedding anniversary, and we’ll be following along in my mom’s retro 2002 yellow Thunderbird only 3 days before our wedding. I’m not sure if we’ll have a cute little parade flag on the car… since I have no idea what it would say… “Future Lemons?” I mean… it would be appropriate for the yellow car? :)

Is anyone else planning other big events in the week leading up to their big day?

Meetings

March 30th, 2007 @ 11:01 am by Mrs. Blueberry

Inspired by Miss Bluebell’s post on the same topic…

Mr. Blueberry’s family and my family do *not* have a good history of meetings. All three key meetings (him + my parents, me + his parents, my parents + his parents) have been…interesting. It was nothing like the movies, that’s for sure.

Mr. Blueberry met my parents first. It was move-out day at the end of my freshman year of college. Mr. Blueberry and I had been dating for about a month. And the meeting was in the trash room of my dorm. Yes, you read that right–the trash room. So we’re standing there amid the recyclables, and Mr. Blueberry walks up the stairs where my parents and I are in the middle of hauling dorm stuff out to our cars. He’s very polite: “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Blueberry” he says as he sticks out his hand. But right then, some random person comes through with a big box (move-out day, remember) and walks right between us. Awkward? Yeah. Really. Luckily, they’ve moved on and really like him now. smiley102

My meeting of Mr. Blueberry’s parents went a little better. We’d already talked on the phone a couple of times. This was during the summer of 2005. I was living at home for the summer; as was Mr. Blueberry. I made the drive from Kansas City to St Louis in my un-air conditioned 1995 Mazda Protege (this is the car I’ll likely be driving for several more years, too):

Let Me Tell Ya…

March 30th, 2007 @ 10:26 am by Mrs. Kiwi

Since you guys think I’m hella cool haha, and want to know more… cool

Six Weird Things About Me:

1.) My first and last names are colors - also the character of a children’s series. In fact, the character even has the same MIDDLE name. Spooky.

2.) I used to eat dirt - a lot. And yes, I liked it. I was a vegetarian, I needed MINERALS, man.

3.) I can touch my tongue to my nose, sometimes it makes my jaw hurt. Despite what you may think, no, it isn’t attractive. laughin010

4.) I had cataracts in both eyes at 19/20 years old. I had to wear the super cool black mega sunglasses. And I mean that sarcastically.

5.) I had a tail. Just kidding! I only have one dimple. It’s in my right cheek and the bane of my existence.

6.) My high school nickname (not chosen by me) was “Knobs”. Guess what that means. censore At least they were more creative than using “Jugs”. Like Miss Strawberry, I was also teased in junior high for being flatchested. I guess they forget easily.

That’s Kiwi in a nutshell!

Eyelash Update

March 30th, 2007 @ 9:24 am by Mrs. Plumeria

So, remember my eyelash post a long while ago? The general consensus from the comments (thanks everyone!) was to go for the faux lashes. While I really liked how they made my lashes extra long and flirty, I did notice that the density of lashes at the band really changed the whole look of my eyes in general… and not in a way that I necessarily wanted. Even more of a deterrent in the case for the falsies was Mr. Plumeria’s immediate reaction: “Ew. You look so much better without them. You look like a doll in those pictures.” *sees my face sort of fall* “Well, I mean, it’s really up to you and what you feel would look best. Do whatever you want.” Then, inserted hastily: “But, ew!”

I had a sinking feeling right away that they were not going to work, no matter how dramatic they might look, because I do NOT want to walk down that aisle to him with him thinking that I look like plastic. In the end, I don’t mind so much because I’m not quite expert at applying them anyway… and I can always save them for a night out sometime.

So I embarked on a journey to find the perfect mascara to give me some length, but without the unnatural look of the false lashes. The main requirements? Absolutely smudge-proof, even through potential tears, and absolutely clump-free as well: the two reasons I had liked the false lashes. If I could find a miracle mascara that could do both of these, then there would be no reason to wear fakes.

Reader Buzz: Choosing Bridesmaids

March 29th, 2007 @ 8:06 pm by Reader Buzz

Mrs. Bee here.

Many of you chimed in on our Bad Bridesmaid open question today, and it got me thinking about how and why we choose our bridesmaids. Whether she’s a sibling, childhood friend, or your best friend, we all have reasons for asking certain people to stand by our side when we get married.

How did you decide who to ask to be a bridesmaid? Was the decision easy or difficult?

Second Time’s The Charm

March 29th, 2007 @ 4:43 pm by Mrs. Plumeria

My gown arrived last week, in the nick of time for our formal portraits this weekend (!!!), and given my dress track record, I can’t say that I wasn’t slightly apprehensive as I headed over to Debra’s store (Dori Anne Veils) to try it on and then take it home with me.

All I can say is: I shouldn’t have worried. The dress is even more gorgeous now that it’s in my size, and I cannot wait to wear it!! I feel doubly blessed because I get to wear it and get all dressed up twice: once for our portraits, and once more for the wedding. This is truly my dream gown - its crystal and embroidery details are simple but stunning, the silk taffeta is airy and makes delicate swishing noises, and the overall silhouette is exactly what I’ve pictured…

#4 I never fill up my gas tank all the way. I hate waiting for it to fill.

#5 I can do voices. Lots of them. Oh, and I still make prank phone calls.
