Wait… what happened to Hair Trial #1? Well, I guess you could say it’s why everyone should make sure they have at least one hair trial… and perhaps more if they are using someone who isn’t their normal hair stylist. During the first round, I came in with my oily unwashed hair and we tried our best to make the half-up hairdo work. And it looked nice… but it wasn’t as full and “bridal” as I wanted it to look. So, I went and picked up some clip-in hair extensions and went back to the salon for another trial.
This time, we washed my hair, filled it with mousse, dried it with a roller brush and then started to set it with heat. And here ’s the end result with the extra volume and length from the extensions:

The other day I wondered something. In relationships, a lot of the time one partner is more “experienced” relationship-wise. I’m not talking about sex, just relationships, love. Take me, for instance. A serial monogamist, I’ve had 4 lasting relationships including Mr. Kiwi (twice), over about 10 years. I was rarely single. Out of those relationships, I had only one other great love before Mr. Kiwi. He knows this about me. Not all of the previous relationships were good, but from each one I learned how to be treated, how to treat others, and what is “right” to me. Which eventually led me back to Mr. Kiwi.
Mr. Kiwi, on the other hand, has had many short term flings. He dated a lot, never finding someone he felt comfortable with. For him, the “love of his life” was me, and had always been me. All of this really came to light during the meeting with the Father, when he asked who came before our S/O.
It made me think, what would you prefer? A person who rarely dated, but still loved someone before… or a person who dated around a lot, but had never been in love? Honestly, since we’re a mix of the two, I don’t know which is the greater evil.
What about you and your SO? Were you/was he a person who dated around and never connected with anyone (but didn’t mind looking
), or a person who didn’t really date, but had been in love before?

Gwyneth Paltrow shared the secret to her healthy hair in a past interview with Harper’s Bazaar Magazine:
It’s vitamins. Take New Chapter Organics’ Perfect Prenatal. It doesn’t matter if you are pregnant, I swear to God. I have double-processed blond hair, and it’s so long and not damaged. Those vitamins, they are the trick! (via about.com)

Spell it with me now, ladies. So what is this photography phenomenon? I think the definition on Skye Blu’s Boudoir site captures it best.
“Boudoir” literally translates to: a lady’s bedroom or private sitting room. However, when paired with the element of photography, it takes on an entirely different meaning. Boudoir photography celebrates the splendor and grace of the human form, by capturing curves and sensuality on film. These intimate photographs can range from fully clothed to tasteful nudes but always have a sense of allure and intense beauty…

I am a product of divorced parents. I think my situation is a little unusual because they just recently (5 years ago) divorced after over 40 years of marriage. For a few years it was rough for both sides but we managed to work it out and have since moved on. I think they’re much happier now. Since it was an arranged marriage, I guess they felt somewhat pushed to love one another. Mr. Apple and I both agree that an unhappy marriage should never stay together for the sake of children.

Since I was little, I’ve been fascinated by the lush wedding bouquet you get to hold, and the boutonnieres that are so elegantly displayed on the lapel, all so lovely. This is what made my wedding flowers hard. I was torn between many choices.
First, there is the all white (or ivory) bouquet, pure and clean, it seemed to be the traditional choice. Really, though, what is tradition in this day and age?
This is what I had pictured for the white bouquet (roses, stephanotis and calla lilies):

I got it. Over 10 months into wedding preparation I now understand.
Now that things are winding down, vendors are booked, and parties are complete, I’ve realized how much this wedding has taken over one year of my life. Initially my wedding intentions were to project fun (I love projects) for everyone including Mr. Apple, my maid of honor, family, and friends. But to my disapointment, no one enjoyed it as much as me. Hence, the introduction of Xanga then Weddingbee.
Crate & Barrel is offering a free copy of their 50 Things You Wish Someone Had Told You Before You Registered guide on their website. I don’t know how good it is, but I did just order a copy, and hey you can’t beat free!

Where do I put my money? With some fudging around, I have about $2000 to $2300 in my budget to play around with. What are my priorities, what are my choices?
Lighting: From the start, I knew that lighting was an absolute must for me. Depending on who I go with, and what I choose, I could get basic amber ambiance lighting for maybe around $500, or something more elaborate if I wanted to drop around $1000…

Fabric: Then I decided, ooohhhhh, fabric draping along the wall would look AMAZING! But at $25/foot, and with 60+ feet to cover, that’s a minimum of $1500 right there! My fabric-covered wall dreams are starting to look less and less reasonable. ![]()

Videography: Initially videography was not a priority for me. My impression of the wedding videography genre as a whole was that it was just plain cheesy. But I did want someone to record the day, so I was thinking of going the Craigslist route, or having a very basic videographer without all the bells and whistles (I actually have a candidate who fits the bill for this). But THEN, last week when Weddingbee posted Rhea and Tim’s Real Wedding and the link to their incredible wedding video, I watched it and freakin’ bawled my eyes out! And I don’t even know them! That’s when I realized that when done right, a wedding video can be more than the cheesy music, slow motion and blurry “romantic” shots. I want to bawl when I watch my own video too! But man, oh man, is it expensive. The videographers that are halfway decent, don’t have the home-movie look, and have decent editing skills are $2000 and up. There goes my budget.
Oh yea, I must have some sort of lighting, so I have to at least put $500-ish there…
Disclaimer: I have a feeling I may get some flack for “wasting” money on these unneccessary extras, but to each their own, right? ![]()
I first met our featured bride, Jenny, at a summer camp when we were in elementary school. We were in the same group and she even came over to my house once after camp ended… but soon thereafter we lost contact. Fast forward nearly 15 years when we subscribed to each other’s xanga sites. We’d been reading each other’s sites for years before we just recently realized… that we knew each other! I can’t tell you how many people I’ve reconnected with through my blog!
Jenny recently had a gorgeous Southern California wedding, so I asked her to share the details with weddingbee…

Anyone else a Project Runway fan? One reason I love the show is because Tim Gunn is freakin’ hilarious (the “Where’s Aaaaaaaaaaaandrae” episode with Santino will forever live in my mind). But, I also love to see all the gorgeous little creations the designers come up with. I’d like to fancy myself a nouveau-style Martha Stewart, even though I am not crafty. Nor can I sew. So I’m basically Martha Stewart on Opposite Day. But I love the fabrics the designers on PR use for their clothing. Mood basically looks like clothing and fabric porn — luxurious slinky silks, soft gauzes, and everything in between.
Thus, I had quite the reaction when, driving home recently, I saw a new sign for Mood Designer Fabrics. Jigga wha?! I thought Mood was only in New York City? I stopped in the shopping center and sure enough, this is the same store branching out to Los Angeles. They are still currently stocking their shelves, but I have seen some gorgeous fabrics in there thus far. They are in the process of stocking all their tulle and lace and have a limited amount of trims available for those interested in possibly making their own veils.

Mr. Kiwi is a large man. He’s a big teddy bear, about 6′3″ and built solidly. His size makes it hard to find a suit that looks good on him. Although the term “Big and Tall” is an insult to him, I love it. He’s big. He’s not fat, just big. I guess you’d call him “big boned”.
Anyway, Mr. Kiwi wants to wait until after the summer to start looking for suits. Since he works at a school during the typical months (Sept. through June) he’s often a little heavier during these times. During the summer though, he works the beach volleyball tournaments and loses weight. I can understand his reasoning for waiting, but I’d also like him to take a look around to see what he likes, since he’ll most likely have a suit made for him.
A friend of ours who married last year said that her husband shopped for his suit early, and it was a good thing, because a lot of work had to be done. Another thing kinda making me want to start looking now is our scheduling - after his summer schedule of traveling, he’ll be right back in school full time, which means full evenings and weekends. With our wedding two months after school starts, when does that leave time for suit shopping?
A question: when does your guy shop for the big day outfit?
