Our RSVP’s were marked “The courtesy of your reply is requested by the first of May 2007″. So far, of the 83 invites we sent out, we’ve gotten 45 back–just over half of them. Now, somehow I doubt we’ll get 38 responses in the mail tomorrow–don’t you?
You may know I’m not a patient person, so the amount of uncertainty we still have is killin’ me!
So for you already-marrieds: how long did it take until you got the majority of the responses back? When did you start pestering people?
There are some issues in this world that really tend to polarize people: politics, religion, cake toppers…
I for one come down firmly on the side of Switzerland regarding this last item. But I do know this. If I were sure I wanted one, and I were sure my wedding were going to be retro-riffic, I’d know where to go. Fancy Flours has a great selection of vintage toppers from the 20s through the 70s. They range in condition (poor to mint) and accordingly, price ($65 to $195):

These Pictures of 200 Calories of Various Foods were making the blog circuit a couple of weeks ago. Since I’m not very good at estimating calories, I thought it was a great way to see what 200 calories actually looks like when comparing healthy food and junk food.
Last week Lifehacker linked to pictures of 300 - 400 calorie meals to give you an idea of portion size. Don’t these meals look tasty? You could eat 3 of these meals plus a 200 calorie snack and still consume only about 1200 calories per day.
While I spent hundreds of hours pouring over every little detail of my “wedding day look”, I have always thought that my FI’s attire deserved the same amount of attention (although he, as a typical boy, told me that he couldn’t care less if he rented or bought/what color it was/what kind of fit/etc.). Either way, I still wanted him to feel extra special on our wedding day, so I helped him to find the perfect suit/had it tailored, had the shirt custom made, found the perfect tie, and I needed to find the “perfect cufflinks” (accessories) to complete his look. BTW–he absolutely LOVES his shirt–he says it’s the comfiest and best-fitting shirt he’s ever worn (well duh, it better fit–it was CUSTOM haha, nerd.)
I’ve been searching for quite some time now and FINALLY came across some links that just screamed “buy me, buy me!”. For those of you who don’t know my fiance, he is quite the nerd–he likes basketball, videogames, and more of those old-school video games (think original Nintendo and Atari). Soooo, I got him these:

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
Recently Mr. Kiwi put us in a bit of a bind. Out of respect for his brother and sister, we are inviting their in-laws. So it’s his sister’s husband’s parents, and his brother’s in-laws as well (confused yet?). Since we had discussed it previously, I was all set to address a save-the-date to Lena’s (Mr. Kiwi’s sister) sister in law, too. Well, Lena had to call for their address, since we didn’t have it.
As I was telling Mr. Kiwi about how hard it was to get this address, he breaks the news: “We are NOT inviting them.” What?! We had discussed this BEFORE, man. Well, Mr. Kiwi has since remembered a bad experience with that couple (they tried to TIP him for helping out family–the ultimate insult to Mr. Kiwi) and refuses to invite them. They’re also fairly judgmental and will most likely make insulting comments in comparing our wedding to theirs.
Now, thankfully, we rarely have to see that family, but what am I going to do? We’ve already asked for the address, and Mr. Kiwi just freakishly changed his mind. (Thank goodness they are not internet savvy!) We’re in a bind.
Time for my first survey! The Weekly Roundup featured a story on grooms’ showers and joint showers, and now I’m wondering how common this really is.
The town that Mr. Pumpkin comes from (Pense, SK) throws a shower whenever someone from the town gets married. The moms of all of the kids from the bride or groom’s class in school host the shower, and everyone comes out to celebrate and visit and have lovely desserts; it’s always so much fun.
It used to be that they would host the shower for the bride whether she was the one from Pense or not, but recently (in the last two years, I think), they have started hosting the shower for the groom if he’s the one with the Pense connection. It ends up being more of a joint shower than a groom’s shower because the guests are still predominantly female–but I think that it’s fantastic that they switched their tradition to include the groom.

For anyone following my early foray into cake country, I can assure you that nothing’s changed. We’re still clueless. In fact, we’re worse than clueless. We’re confused.
We met with adorable Ella, who showed us her portfolio and watched patiently as we loved each cake more than the next. And who wouldn’t? Some options:
I think the word you’re looking for is “totallycompletelyunbelievable.” She said some of those flowers took eight hours to make. Mr. Lovebug is just wild about the topsy-turvy crazy cakes like these:
Lately, I have been totally stressed about wedding planning. Both Mr. Raspberry and I are very busy with our jobs–after the Daily Candy post last week, I have been slammed, which is a good thing. But I’ve been working so much, I feel like I’m not taking enough time to enjoy all the little parts of planning our wedding. At the same time, I try to put things in perspective by thinking that no matter what size candles I decide on for the reception tables, the wedding will happen and in the end we will be husband and wife. I know this sounds so cheesy, but it’s true! My wedding band arrived a couple of weeks ago (Mr. Raspberry’s came months ago) and I cannot wait to wear it! I can’t wait to be Mrs. Raspberry!
My list of little things to take care of is so long, there is no way I can possibly do everything myself. And Mr. Raspberry has taken on all of the tasks I can really delegate to him.
Is this less than 3 months to go stress totally normal? Have you had any breakdowns where you just think, I really do not care what shade of white the napkins are??? I know in the end everything will be beautiful, and I really don’t want to make anymore decisions! I just want to enjoy every moment of the last couple of months… Read more…
Based on your feedback, we added a bee to the header. You can see two different versions here:

What do you think? Which of these renditions is your favorite so far?

I have blogged and raved about the fabulous Fifty-Foot Films in the past - they are so creative, innovative, and their films are absolutely romantic and utterly breathtaking. They are well-renowned for what they refer to as ‘cinematic decadence’ - you definitely have to check out their website!
I adore their artistic style, the fact that every video just exudes warmth and romance, and I love the fact that they use music that is ‘unconventional’ and unexpected, yet so perfect (I absolutely love the version of Sting’s” Fields of Gold” that they used in the Texas film clip). They were probably the first film company that I contacted to capture my wedding and the one that I used as THE standard thereafter - which resulted in a very disappointing and basically fruitless search. However, as they are located in California and have teams in New York, the rest of us who are located in other parts of the country have had to suffer (that is, if we couldn’t afford to fly them in).
Some of you have asked me to do a review of my Canon Rebel xTi, but I’ve really only used it a handful of times the past two months. Since Mrs. Ladybug and I have the same camera and we both wanted to practice using it, we went to the Brooklyn Botanical Garden yesterday for the Cherry Blossom Festival. It was jam packed, but if you can go during the week, it’s an absolutely gorgeous place to take engagement pictures.
To show you what the camera is capable of with my extreme novice skills, I thought I’d share some of the pictures I took. These photos are not retouched, and were all taken using basic auto focus settings. I’m truly a beginner with the DSLR, so I can’t wait to get a whole lot better!
Gorgeous tulips in every color, shape and size.

One of the things I love about Mr. Lovebug is that he consents to letting me put together fantastically hip outfits for him. For dinner the other night, I had him in a Goonie’s t-shirt, a velvet blazer, True Religion jeans, and Converse. Very dashing, I assure you.
Of course, I can’t rest on my laurels. The drive to keep him cutting-edge cute compels me to scour the net for the latest in metrosexual man-wares. And as every well-accessorized woman knows, god (and goddess) is in the details. So if details like shirtcuffs linked with beautifully detailed enamel and sterling silver from Duncan Quinn…
I know it’s sort-of relatively last minute to be thinking about this, but now I’m having a thought (uh oh! Miss Blueberry having a thought? Hang onto your veils, girls!)…
You probably already know that we’re having a dessert reception, but I’ll just go ahead and say it again. It’ll be full-blown, not just a little wedding cake + mints + punch thing…
We’re talking cake, (fudge) groom’s cake, 2 chocolate fountains, baklava, kourambiedes, various pastries, snickerdoodles, sugar cookies, macadamia white chocolate chip cookies, mini cheesecakes, petit fours, sugar-free brownies, rice crispie treats (mmmmmmmm), Sour Patch kids (Mr. Blueberry loves ‘em!), those cute wedding-colored M&M’s, and lots more that I can’t think of off the top of my head.
But now I’m thinking (hence the aforementioned concern for y’all’s well-being). We’re having wine, and we’re having fruit. So wouldn’t it be cool to have cheese, too? Yeah, it would.
Mr. Kiwi and I are not ashamed to admit the biggest reason we chose our venue: the cake was included from my favorite bakery. Well, actually they gave us two choices, our favorite Hansen’s Cakes, and Torrance Bakery cakes. Up to this past weekend we were set for our bakery, we just had to go taste the cakes and fillings. Then my FSIL said that she’d heard amazing things about the Torrance Bakery. Greaat.
We went to a wedding a few weeks ago that had a Hansen’s cake. Maybe the choices weren’t to my taste, because I was fairly disappointed in the wedding cake. Sure, it all tasted good, but it wasn’t anything I’d talk about later, ya know? Now I’m feeling torn. I know for a fact that Hansen’s makes tasty cakes- I’ve had them before. They have many flavors of cake, but not that many fillings that sounded good to me (and I’m all about the fillings). Another downside- the cake designs are a little old-fashioned. I’m sure we could do a special cake, but it may not be included in our package, and we’re not looking to spend more than the package allows.
Torrance Bakery has beautiful cakes, and a ton of fillings. In an ironic twist, they have less flavors of cake than Hansen’s! It’s like they’re trying to make me choose- tasty cake options or tasty filling options! Either place we go, we’ll have a four tier cake iced in buttercream frosting, that much I know (at least I know something!).
