Fiance's Age and Occupation: 23, Full-time Student
Engagement Date: September 10, 2005
Wedding Date: May 25, 2007
Venue: Wynbrick Center - a historic mansion in my hometown.
About Me: We're having an intimate, 125-ish person wedding with a full-blown dessert reception. When I'm not obsessing over wedding stuff or studying for my BA in English, I'm usually playing with our two kitty cats, blogging, doing crafty things, or hanging out with Mr. Blueberry!
Our RSVP’s were marked “The courtesy of your reply is requested by the first of May 2007″. So far, of the 83 invites we sent out, we’ve gotten 45 back–just over half of them. Now, somehow I doubt we’ll get 38 responses in the mail tomorrow–don’t you?
You may know I’m not a patient person, so the amount of uncertainty we still have is killin’ me!
So for you already-marrieds: how long did it take until you got the majority of the responses back? When did you start pestering people?

About Me: Likes: blogging, wikis, semi-colons, cuddling, fragrant flowers, syntax, and spooning. Dislikes: typos, dangling modifiers, flypaper, citronella candles, and run-ons. If I had my druthers, I'd exchange simple vows in a candlelit library. But I lost my druthers long ago...anyone seen them?
There are some issues in this world that really tend to polarize people: politics, religion, cake toppers…
I for one come down firmly on the side of Switzerland regarding this last item. But I do know this. If I were sure I wanted one, and I were sure my wedding were going to be retro-riffic, I’d know where to go. Fancy Flours has a great selection of vintage toppers from the 20s through the 70s. They range in condition (poor to mint) and accordingly, price ($65 to $195):

Can’t you just hear the Gerswhin?

These Pictures of 200 Calories of Various Foods were making the blog circuit a couple of weeks ago. Since I’m not very good at estimating calories, I thought it was a great way to see what 200 calories actually looks like when comparing healthy food and junk food.

Last week Lifehacker linked to pictures of 300 - 400 calorie meals to give you an idea of portion size. Don’t these meals look tasty? You could eat 3 of these meals plus a 200 calorie snack and still consume only about 1200 calories per day.

About Me: I have been engaged for about two years now - yes, a long engagement, because my fiance and I wanted to wait until I graduated college, which I did this past summer! He proposed after dating just two months - crazy, I know, but 2 years later, here we are, still crazy in love :-). We are having not one, but TWO weddings and TWO receptions in one weekend - American-style and Vietnamese-style - in Dallas, Texas, where I was born and raised!
While I spent hundreds of hours pouring over every little detail of my “wedding day look”, I have always thought that my FI’s attire deserved the same amount of attention (although he, as a typical boy, told me that he couldn’t care less if he rented or bought/what color it was/what kind of fit/etc.). Either way, I still wanted him to feel extra special on our wedding day, so I helped him to find the perfect suit/had it tailored, had the shirt custom made, found the perfect tie, and I needed to find the “perfect cufflinks” (accessories) to complete his look. BTW–he absolutely LOVES his shirt–he says it’s the comfiest and best-fitting shirt he’s ever worn (well duh, it better fit–it was CUSTOM haha, nerd.)
I’ve been searching for quite some time now and FINALLY came across some links that just screamed “buy me, buy me!”. For those of you who don’t know my fiance, he is quite the nerd–he likes basketball, videogames, and more of those old-school video games (think original Nintendo and Atari). Soooo, I got him these:

Mrs. Kiwi, Los Angeles
Age and Occupation in 06: 27, Bookkeeper
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, P.E. Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA
Engagement Date: March 31, 2006
Wedding Date: November 3, 2007
Venue: Radisson Hotel
About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!
Recently Mr. Kiwi put us in a bit of a bind. Out of respect for his brother and sister, we are inviting their in-laws. So it’s his sister’s husband’s parents, and his brother’s in-laws as well (confused yet?). Since we had discussed it previously, I was all set to address a save-the-date to Lena’s (Mr. Kiwi’s sister) sister in law, too. Well, Lena had to call for their address, since we didn’t have it.
As I was telling Mr. Kiwi about how hard it was to get this address, he breaks the news: “We are NOT inviting them.” What?! We had discussed this BEFORE, man. Well, Mr. Kiwi has since remembered a bad experience with that couple (they tried to TIP him for helping out family–the ultimate insult to Mr. Kiwi) and refuses to invite them. They’re also fairly judgmental and will most likely make insulting comments in comparing our wedding to theirs.
Now, thankfully, we rarely have to see that family, but what am I going to do? We’ve already asked for the address, and Mr. Kiwi just freakishly changed his mind. (Thank goodness they are not internet savvy!) We’re in a bind.

About Me: I love movies, music and I am addicted to TV. When I have some spare time I also love scrapbooking and making personalized greeting cards and above all playing Hide & Seek or Duck, Duck, Goose with my two adorable nieces!
Time for my first survey! The Weekly Roundup featured a story on grooms’ showers and joint showers, and now I’m wondering how common this really is.
The town that Mr. Pumpkin comes from (Pense, SK) throws a shower whenever someone from the town gets married. The moms of all of the kids from the bride or groom’s class in school host the shower, and everyone comes out to celebrate and visit and have lovely desserts; it’s always so much fun.
It used to be that they would host the shower for the bride whether she was the one from Pense or not, but recently (in the last two years, I think), they have started hosting the shower for the groom if he’s the one with the Pense connection. It ends up being more of a joint shower than a groom’s shower because the guests are still predominantly female–but I think that it’s fantastic that they switched their tradition to include the groom.

In today’s hive:
- kp is looking for recommendations for a NY florist offering bargain prices for wedding flowers. She’s heard of Korean florists that offer packages between $1000 and $1500. Can anyone verify this, or suggest another “hidden find”?
- Summer Bride is on the hunt for a birdcage veil. She wants something “less cagey” and more “off the face” to go with her tea-length dress. Anyone know a good web vendor for something like this? Or any NYC girls know where to find one? Also, does anyone have any thoughts on whether birdcage veils are a good idea or a bad one?
- Also, Summer Bride is looking for suggestions on where to find sample “orders of ceremony”. She’s meeting with her officiant to plan out the ceremony, but she’s clueless as to where to start planning. Anyone know a good website or book for this?
- glass wants to know where she can find cheap Polaroid cameras–any former brides selling theirs?
- Ms. T has less than five months to find a wedding planner/designer in the NYC area for a not-so-traditional wedding. She doesn’t need a planner to book vendors, but rather to design and creatively coordinate her flowers/colors/themes/reception area. Can anyone recommend one?
- Ana’s sister bought her a dozen hot pink paper lanterns, but her wedding color is light pink. She doesn’t want to waste the lanterns, though, so she’s wondering if there’s any way to make them look lighter? Perhaps spray painting or adding flowers?
- Andria once saw a picture of decorated church pews, and is hoping to replicate them. A description of what she saw is here, and she’d love some help trying to figure out how to do it.
- Can anyone tell JennyGoLightly how to get a “thank you” list from her Crate and Barrel registry? She’s trying to figure out who bought what.
- Mee!! is wondering if anyone knows of any Monique Lhuillier rosette gowns (Spring 2005) for sale? Also, does anyone have pictures of a real bride wearing the rosette gown (the non-strapless version)? She has the stock photo from ML’s website, but she’d like to see real-life pictures so that she can have the dress recreated for her.
- Ciaobella is looking for information about honeymooning in South Africa in mid-September: Johannesburg or Capetown? Beach resorts? Travel website suggestions, anyone?

For anyone following my early foray into cake country, I can assure you that nothing’s changed. We’re still clueless. In fact, we’re worse than clueless. We’re confused.
We met with adorable Ella, who showed us her portfolio and watched patiently as we loved each cake more than the next. And who wouldn’t? Some options:

I think the word you’re looking for is “totallycompletelyunbelievable.” She said some of those flowers took eight hours to make. Mr. Lovebug is just wild about the topsy-turvy crazy cakes like these:

About Me: I love wedding and event planning. I am having a great time with all of my DIY projects and can't wait to share them with all of the WeddingBee Readers (some have to wait until after our wedding)! Other favorites include: cooking, running, tennis, knitting and making crafts. Mr. Raspberry and I also have two dogs - Gewurz, a 2 year old
yellow lab and Stella, a 1 year old old cock-a poo.
Lately, I have been totally stressed about wedding planning. Both Mr. Raspberry and I are very busy with our jobs–after the Daily Candy post last week, I have been slammed, which is a good thing. But I’ve been working so much, I feel like I’m not taking enough time to enjoy all the little parts of planning our wedding. At the same time, I try to put things in perspective by thinking that no matter what size candles I decide on for the reception tables, the wedding will happen and in the end we will be husband and wife. I know this sounds so cheesy, but it’s true! My wedding band arrived a couple of weeks ago (Mr. Raspberry’s came months ago) and I cannot wait to wear it! I can’t wait to be Mrs. Raspberry!
My list of little things to take care of is so long, there is no way I can possibly do everything myself. And Mr. Raspberry has taken on all of the tasks I can really delegate to him.
Is this less than 3 months to go stress totally normal? Have you had any breakdowns where you just think, I really do not care what shade of white the napkins are??? I know in the end everything will be beautiful, and I really don’t want to make anymore decisions! I just want to enjoy every moment of the last couple of months… Read more…
