About Mrs. Kiwi

One Year Ago…

April 1st, 2007 @ 11:40 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

We’ve officially been engaged for a whole year. 365 days of almost married. :) Now, we’re at the 7 month out mark, and all the big things have been taken care of. I’m finally getting that break that I should have taken when we first got engaged, the one everyone told us to enjoy!

I’m in a weird position right now, because I feel like all the major details have been taken care of, and it feels like I shouldn’t be in a standstill. Up to last night I felt I had it all in good order, and was just waiting for the rest to catch up - the dress coming in, tastings, things like that. Why up to last night? I just found out the coordinator at our reception venue is leaving the middle of the month.

I don’t know if I should be panicked or what, because so far, nothing important had to be taken care of. I DO wonder, though, why she hasn’t notified us. Hm.

What kind of things will her leaving affect? We’ll still be having the same food, the same colors, things like that, so is it any different?

Has anyone had an experience like this?

Happened to my soon-to-be-sister-in-law. While not comforting to you, it was a nightmare. Hope things turn out well.

This happened to me…about 7 months out. While it was somewhat frustrating, our new coordinator has been absolutely wonderful. I’m sure that has helped the transition - I hope yours will be great too!

Same thing happened to us and we were not notified either until we called to set up a follow up meeting and I was informed she no longer worked there and what could they help me with…. while I wasn’t thrilled with the lack of communication I have been very impressed with the new coordinator. This says a lot since one gigantic pro on our list when we chose the venue was the coordinator we had originally. Hopefully we continue to be impressed since there are only 10 weeks to go!

GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING. You never know if what your first coordinator did (or didn’t do) will be honored, so if it’s something you want to enforce later, have an e-mail to point back to, or best — something she signed or initialed! Saved me lots of $$$.

This actually happened to us with our caterer…twice. The first time, it was just a missed communication - the one we started working with left, her boss assumed her replacement had told me, the replacement assumed the boss had, etc.

Then I had a hard time getting hold of the replacement, had to e-mail the boss, and eventually the replacement left to go on maternity leave. Irritating, but as it was 7 months out (magic number I guess?) it was ok.

The manager is handling us now, and so far has been fantastic. We’re 2 months out now.
