Wedding Party Shirts

April 1st, 2007 @ 1:53 pm by Mrs. Blueberry

One thing I’ve wanted almost since I started planning, is t-shirts for the members of the wedding party. Unfortunately, Mr. Blueberry and his BM Chris weren’t that wild about the idea, so it looked like it had to be a girls-only thing.

For $3.99 apiece, I picked these up at Joann’s:

Then yesterday I went to Old Navy and got these tanks. For the flower girls (the striped one is the closest thing to matching that I could find for our youngest; she’s only a year old!):

For my MOH Katie:

And for me (I showed this to my parents, and they both said “a wife beater?!?!”):

The iron-ons had directions on the packages that I won’t bother to copy on here, but suffice to say that they were pretty adequate. The only issue I had stemmed from the ribbing on the tanks; if I were to do this project over again I’d probably get shirts without ribbing–it made the tiny jewels hard to stick on, in places).

Here you can see me peeling off the top layer:

I found that it’s easier to peel off the stuff from top to bottom, instead of from left to right. Not sure why that helps, but it does.

After about 45 minutes of work (it took longer to get each decal set up and centered than it did to actually iron it on), I was finished!

If you can work an iron, you can do this DIY. I thought it was really easy, and saved me a lot of money! Each shirt was about $10; compare that to $20.

I did this and it worked out really well. One tip, make sure you wash the shirt first to get the lint off it (helps them adhere). And absolutely do not use textured fabrics (tood hard to get them to stay).

Finally, they don’t hold up very well in the wash, so this is a one-time thing.

flower–I don’t think they’ll hold up for more than one wash; which is sort of sad, but ah well.

Another idea is to pick these up on e-bay (sorry to say, but these shirts are not worn over and over!) and customize them with ribbons in your wedding colors. At least you know they will stand up for two washes. : )

For the flowergirls, at a shower or other pre-wedding event, you could set them up to decorate their own tshirts with puffy pens, ribbons, beading, etc.

Very cute! I wish I had known about them for my wedding. I really wanted those shirts too but they are so expensive and for a one day kinda thing I didn’t want to buy them. Yay for DIY.
