Beehive

April 2nd, 2007 @ 4:46 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  1. Alice is looking for someone who can do great bridal gown alterations at decent prices in SF.
  2. ciaobella might have her dj do the music for the ceremony. Any ideas for fun nonclassical songs for the family, bridesmaid, and bride entrance/exit down the aisle?
  3. p is looking for websites with good sample text for wedding invitations. She’s looking for ideas for her not-so-traditional destination wedding.
  4. Pencils is looking for inexpensive but pretty boxes for guests to take home cake slices/leftover cupcakes?
  5. tav818 wants to know if reception halls charge differently for children’s meals? She also has a handful of teenage cousins and was wondering if she should count them as “children” as they’d probably prefer burgers and fries to “grown-up” food.
  6. lucky7bride is looking for good ideas for parent’s gifts. She’s looking for something sentimental or wow.
  7. Sarah is looking for wording suggestions for a polaroid table. Anyone have something already written?
  8. jenny song is looking for votives and glass for a reasonable price.
  9. hm is looking for info on dw locations because most websites don’t have much on them. Is anyone willing to share research on locations and cost?
  10. shine is wondering if anyone knows whether Renee Zellweger’s Carolina Herrera gown was made for her, or if it’s available to the public?

Ciaobella -

For my bridesmaid entrance I used the opening of Badly Drawn Boy’s “The Shining.” It’s a cello and french horn duet. The whole song is really beautiful, but it was a little bit of a change from the tradtional music.

I walked in to Howie Day’s “Collide” just because it wasn’t a huge walk and it has strings and chimes.

Just my two cents!

tav818–I can’t answer the first part of your question, but in regards to the second part–I definitely appreciate the sentiment, but I think your teenage cousins would probably prefer to get the grownup meal. You might remember your teenage years of being hyper-aware of how people perceive you, and easily offended by any sort of childish treatment. I worry that if you assigned your teenage cousins as “kids” you’d offend them, however good your intentions are. But if you really do think they’d prefer burgers and fries, you could always give them a call or drop an email and ask. I think they’d appreciate your consideration :-)

lucky7bride–I made a similar post a while back, to which lots of readers offered great ideas. Here’s a link:

Question for the ‘hive: I’m pitching in to write the instructions for my bride-friend’s Polaroid table, and need wording suggestions! Anyone already have something written?

2. ciaobella - Right now I am thinking “Stand by Me” for the BP walk, “Here, There and Everywhere” for my walk, and something “fun” like “Don’t Stop Believing” or “My First, My Last, My Everything” for our recessional.

3. p - Just visit invitation sites, like invitationsbydawn.com or something similar. Invites by Dawn happens to have non-traditional/DW invites and I think there’s some fun wording.

7. Sarah - We’re doing a photobooth guestbook and I am not planning on doing a cretive saying, really, but I have some poems listed in my Knot bio:

Can someone do a post on various DW locations? I’m looking into them but usually their websites are no help. Is anyone willing to share research on locations and cost? For example, Tensing Pen in Jamaica charges $900 (decorations, officiant, cake included)for the ceremony, plus $40/per person for food, and $18.50/per person for non-alcoholic bar) plus gratuity.

tav818 - no sep childrens menu is provided by our caterer. you should ask about yours. and i agree with blueberry - limit the children’s menu to children. i dont think your teen cousins will appreciate having to eat kiddie food at the grown up table.

Jenny Song–I got amazingly cheap votives off eBay. For a total price of $56, including shipping (and all that glass is heavy), I got 72 lovely yellow frosted votive holders from eBay seller jerry6862001. He did a “Best offer” auction, I made what I thought was a fair price, and it was accepted in a few hours. And now I’ve got lovely votives in my wedding color for $.77 each. I can’t say they’ll go that cheap for everything, but it’s worth a shot. I’m thinking of buying more, but trying to restrain myself! Also, the Yes Supply Co has *really* cheap prices on glass. As does Cudge, and Save on Crafts.

tav818 - my reception hall charges meals for children 12 years and under at a 40% discount from the adult meal. So if the adult plate is $100, then the kids meal is $60 (which is also the cost of the vendor meals if I choose to feed them).

hm - I’ve noticed that most of the resorts and hotels in the Carribean that have wedding services usually have some information on their websites about general pricing, but you just really need to look for it. For example, the Radisson in the Bahamas has information and prices of their wedding packages on their site but you have to download the PDF. The Atlantis has a PDF of their weddings and menus with prices. Most of the chains, like Sandals, will offer a free ceremony that includes the officiant and cake if you stay at their resort for a minimum number of nights.

For the smaller places, you would probably need to contact them directly, but I got the impression that they’re not willing to give out price information unless they’re 100% sure you’ll go with them. Hope this helps.

2) Ciaobella - We’re using “Something in the way she moves” by James Taylor for the maids’ processional and “Wedding Song” by Bob Dylan for my processional. Not sure about the mothers yet. I think the recessional is going to be “I love you” by Natasha Bettingfield (sp?).

I was wondering if anybody had any creative/unique ideas for a send off at a venue that doesn’t allow confetti, birdseed, sparklers, etc.

Here’s my question for the hive…

Our wedding ceremony is outside at a Fort in Rhode Island overlooking the water. The reception is 25 yards away in a tent next to the fort wall. I really, really wanted to have white wooden garden chairs for the ceremony and the reception, but at $4.50/each I am going to have to go with the samsonite chairs that are only $1.00 each.

I had originally planned on hanging cones filled with hydrangeas with ribbon around the chairs that are along the aisle. However, the samsonite chairs don’t have anything to hang the ribbon off of.

Does anyone have any suggestions for decorating samsonite chairs??
