I thought I’d go ahead and offer some advice and answer some questions about the extensions that I used for my hair trial, and that I plan to use for my wedding:
1) Stay away from online and try to buy it from a professional who knows what they’re doing!
I went to a beauty supply store that has an extensive selection of wigs and human hair pieces. The woman who helped me looked at my hair, went to a drawer and grabbed two samples, took me outside into the sunlight and said, “Ah ha!” and we had my perfect color. She knew what she was doing and I had no doubt it was going to look seamless. If you’re going to invest, you want to make sure no one is going to notice that half of your hair looks a bit “off.”
2) Aren’t you scared of it feeling weird? Falling out? Having your fiance/husband think it’s a bit odd??
Well, when I showed Mr. Lemon the pictures, I saw a bit of drool escape the corner of his mouth, so I’m gauging that he has no objections! Now, as for anyone noticing it’s not real? Well, my hairdresser cut into them to make them look natural, and no one in the salon could notice the clips or sewn band in my hair. And trust me, at the stroke of midnight, when we escape up to the room after the reception, I’m unclipping them from my hair and throwing them in a corner like my dress! The snap-clips are incredibly secure and if it slips I just have to clip it back a bit higher!
3) What about the costs, especially compared to bonded extensions?
I’ve never really been serious about bonded extensions (well except in the 24 hours after my drastically short hair cut three years ago… trust me it was a very emotional time!), but I know they’re pricey, and it would set me back at least $800 to get a decent amount of extra hair attached to mine. These three temporary clip-in pieces, that I can shampoo and wear for the rest of my life, were just under $100. The hair itself was $75, and the rest of the cost involved sewing the pieces and placing the clips.
I hope that helps a few people who were left wondering about how they might be able to also add a bit of length and volume to their hair. It was much easier than I expected and the results are priceless for me… since I get to have the hair I always wanted for my wedding!
