About Mrs. Blueberry

As a follow-up to my earlier post, I thought I’d share what dresses I currently *do* have, and get your input on what to wear for what occasion! I blogged previously about all the times you do need a nice dress, besides just for the Big Day. Showers, bachelorette party, luncheons, rehearsal dinners, etc…

So altogether, in the next two months I will need a dress for 7 different occasions: two showers, Easter (we’re going to church with Mr. Blueberry’s parents), my friend Amber’s wedding, my grandma’s 90th birthday, the rehearsal + dinner, and possibly a bachelorette party (if I have one, that is).

So yesterday afternoon I enlisted Mr. Blueberry to take a bunch of pictures of me in each dress (as well as tentative shoe choices).

Left: Pink. I know the straps need to be taken in; I just haven’t gotten around to doing it yet. (I need to add a sash to this–I’m thinking something narrow, and probably a nice chocolate brown) Right: Green eyelet

Left: All white (though I’m thinking I may change the sash to blue) Right: Blue floral (I LOVE this dress. Love it. It was $3.24 at Filene’s basement 2 years ago; I just need to fix a missing button. Also, notice the shoes? Yep, they’re my Lolas!):

Left: Purple linen ($8, thrift store , but still with the tags on!) Right: Red polka dot (remember seeing this one before?)

Left: Black with white (this is really old; I wore it to my high school graduation! But it has served me well) Right: All black (if I wear this to anything, I’ll accessorize it so it’s not so somber looking!):

Which dress should I wear for my first shower? Second shower? Easter? Grandma’s birthday? My friend Amber’s semi-formal wedding? Rehearsal? Day after brunch? Thanks for your help! :)

PS> If I have a bachelorette party, I might wear this:

I vote for the first 2 for your 2 showers, and the white one for Easter, and no I wasn’t just going down the line, those 3 immediately popped out as choices for me for at least those 3 events :) And I would wear the polka dots for the rehearsal- fun!

Ok you have some winners adn some loosers in this. The best one by far is teh red with the white dots. My least favorite is teh white one. It’s just not as flattering in shape or clor as the rest. The top two are sweet but personally I am not crazy about the white shoes. The bachlorette party dress is perfect. I need to know you trick for getting mr. blueberry to take all those pictures:)!

I think the ones with the thicker shoulder straps (the red, purple and two black ones) would be better for church, your grandma’s birthday, possibly Easter depending on the crowd. I absolutely LOVE the red dress! I think the strapless ones are great for weddings, rehearsal dinners etc.

The two first ones (pastel green and pastel pink) would also be good for Easter, they are very spring-y colours! I can’t believe what a great selection of dresses you have. I feel I need to hit the stores and go shopping right about now…

My three favorites are the black, white, and the red/white polka dot.

I actually think that the dresses with thicker straps are much more flattering to your body. Straplesses dresses make most women look really broad across the shoulders, while dresses with straps balance out the body much better. I agree with the others that the red and white polka dot is best!

Easter - black and white (since it’s church you gotta play it safe)
1st shower - red polka dot
2nd shower - pink
grandma’s b-day - blue floral
wedding - green
rehearsal - red polka dot
day after brunch - purple
bachelorette - stripes

I would make sure to wear a different dress if you are going to see the same crowd more than once. Say your attendants are going to your first shower but they are also attending your rehearsal, then I would switch around the 1st and 2nd shower dresses.

I agree 100% with kate. Red polka-dot dress looks great but lose the shoulderpads.

The at-the-knee length looks best on your legs. The shoes w/ thick anke straps are not as flattering — visually shortens the leg.

I heart the big red polka dot dress

my two cents about the shoes showcased…
Im not a fan of the strap around the ankle.
I think they are very pretty shoes but dont’ do anything to make your legs look long-lean

Maybe peekaboo pumps (patent leather with a patent leather clutch!)

I also liked the eggplant colored dress
I think you could make it a multifunction affair dress depending on the accessories
and shoes…
hot mamma = black stiletto pumps
afternoon brunch queen= ballerina flats….

like I said my two cents…

Ditto what everyone is saying. No strapless or spagetti straps for church or grandma’s birthday. No white for the wedding, and the striped strapless is strictly bachelorette material.

i was thinking the red polka dot for easter since you’ll be at a church…unless you have a sweater or jacket to wear over dresses 1,2 and 4 [the whole modesty thing in a house of worship]. i’m not fond of the white strapless one at all. i do like 1, 2 and 4 for a bridal shower/wedding too.

I like the hite dress the best, and it looks the fanciest, so wear it to the fanciest non-wedding event (I’d avoid white dresses at a wedding… just my preference, haha) and I like how the kitty is in the top two pictures. He/she seems to like the eyelet dress best, or else he/she just wants some attention! :)
