Beehive

April 3rd, 2007 @ 5:13 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  1. Jana is looking for creative ideas for a send off at a venue that doesn’t allow confetti, birdseed, sparklers, etc.
  2. girl planned to hang pinecones with hydrangeas and ribbon around her samsonite ceremony chairs, but they don’t have anything to hang the ribbon off of. Does anyone have suggestions on decorating these chairs?
  3. heyjanety is looking for links to hair bios with pictures of updo’s.
  4. meridith needs to burn 250 cd favors and it seems like a ton of work. Duplication services won’t do it unless you own the music. Any suggestions?
  5. christina is looking for sage or light or dark pink table runners that look great for less.

I’m looking for either sage or pink (light or fuschia/dark pink not hot pink!) table runners for all the tables for my reception. I don’t have millions to spend so something that looks great for less!!

Jana - what about bubbles and/or noisemakers?

1. Jana - we aren’t allowed to have flower petals, birdseed or any of that at our venue either. Instead, we’re doing bubbles for the sendoff and our flowergirl will actually be a bubble girl!

1. Jana - would ecofetti be okay? It’s biodegradeable, I guess! Miss Strawberry blogged about it and has received it, so maybe email her. Other than that, maybe bells (little guys to pass out to each guest, which I’ve gotten before). They don’t torment my ears and I think they are sweet!

2. girl - Instead of wrapping something hortizontally, I have seen pics of things hanging vertically and it looks nice. Email me if you want to see pictures.

1. jana - you could also do ribbon wands… miss snow pea did a post about them here - http://www.weddingbee.com/2007/03/27/ribbon-wands/

i’m generally not a fan of balloons, but i’ve actually seen super cute pictures with guests holding bright red balloons during the send off. :)

meredith-hate to break it to you, but you might just have to burn them.

We bought a program called Nero, which is a burning sofware, and we set it up to do like 50 at a time. We had a spindle that had blanks, and a spindle that had finished ones, and everytime one spit out, you just put a new one in and closed the drive.

We did it while playing on the web, watching movies (we loaded it on the laptop)… and eventually, you get tired of it, but its done- total cost for 150- $24.

Hope this helps!

meredith - you may want to see if there are people that could help you out - like bridesmaids/groomsmen with computers of their own. Even if each of them did 25, that would put a nice dent in your own list. Or if you have access to a computer lab, you could have fun with that!

Christina-when is your wedding? I’m making table runners 15 I think, that are sage green (I think). If your wedding is after July 28th, you can buy mine for cheap. I’m having a small wedding though…120 people. So we might not have enough runners for you. You can e-mail me at corey.fitzpatrick at gmail . if you’re interested.

1. Please don’t release balloons! The end up tangled in a tree, trash in someone’s yard, or if you live by open water, sea turtles and other marine animals may try to eat them and die. Holding them would be fine. I like the bubble idea, or petals, or noise makers (old fashioned noise makers would be cute!)

Jana - what about giving everyone a hankie as their favor and then when you leave they can all wave them? That would make for pretty pictures. Or, check out something naturistic, like releasing doves or butterflies. That way, you’re contributing to the environment instead of destroying it!

Meredith - I second asking friends/bp members for help. Another idea is check out the campus computer store at your closest university. When I worked at ours, we had a big machine that would burn CDs really quick (we made lots of copies of the software we sold in the store). Might be at least worth asking to pay like $50 and provide the CDs.

christina… instead of renting table runners we are renting chair sashes and using them as runners. so for a dollar a sash we are getting two criss-crossed table runners at 1$ each! Of course they are only 12″ wide instead of the 18 or 24″ that normal table runners cost. Our tables are 60″ rounds so the sashes hang about 12-15″ down the side of the table.

Question:
My wedding is in August and I’m getting nervous about ordering official bridesmaid dresses (my fiance’s sisters live in Ireland and I need to ship them over for altering…). I am looking for tea length dresses in a purple-ish color. I found dresses at Nordstrom I thought would work, but they are “soft lilac” which seems to be on the pinker side of purple and washes out the blonde bridesmaids. Any ideas on where I can find purple, lilac, violet dresses off the rack? And, one bridesmaid will be nursing at that time and is uncomfortable wearing strapless…There are so many great dresses out there, but I haven’t found any in purplish hues… Thanks for any ideas!

Jana - I’ve seen a wedding where they had little sticks/wands with ribbons on them and people waved them as the couple passed. It’s cute for photos! :)

Like these http://www.myweddingfavors.com/ribbon-wand.html

Here’s instructions too, but the images don’t work anymore :(

Kara,

Good luck with your endeavor. If you happen to stumble across any please let me know! I actually asked the same question in a previous hive, and although it looks like my girls are just going to have to suck it up and pay “bridal” prices, I would suggest to keep an eye on dillards.com and macys.com under both women and juniors. It’s what I’m going to keep doing until the absolute last minute in hopes that I cand find something cheaper! As for color, try Alfred Angelo dresses in the color grape. If all else fails you could pay for rush shipping…

Jana, my friend is doing candles - think a candlelight service at a wedding. It will create the cool glow sorta like the sparklers without all the smoke.

HeyJanety - a good place to see updos and other styles is the website-
http://www.haircomesthebride.com
They have a celebrity inspiration album, they have a bridal album of their work, a bridesmaid album, and their “most recent work” which shows bridal before and afters. Probably a few hundred pictures altogether. There aren’t many of short hair but plenty of updos.

I am thinking about DIY invitations. I have a color laser printer that I can use but I’m concerned that if I use card stock in the printer that it will bend the paper and the invitations will no longer lay flat. Has anyone had any experiences or have recommendations? Thanks!
