Mrs. Kiwi's Picture
Mrs. Kiwi, Los Angeles Age and Occupation in 06: 27, Bookkeeper Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, P.E. Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!
About Mrs. Kiwi

Made to Order MIL

April 3rd, 2007 @ 2:35 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

Yesterday my future mother in law forwarded me a picture of the dress that she would love to wear for the wedding. Since she’s been a mother of the groom as well as a mother of the bride before, she wanted to wait for my mom to get her stuff, and then try to accent her dress, not overshadow.

According to these sites:(scroll down to the bottom), this is the tradition when it comes to the mothers of the groom. Mr. Kiwi’s mom is very traditional, and wants to do things according to the book (like the rehearsal dinner I posted about previously!) which I think is very nice.

Anyway, my FMIL ran this dress by me, and she wanted to make sure it was okay. Then she called this morning and said that if my mom is wearing a gold dress as we’ve planned, then she’ll wear beige, or a copper color. Because, and I quote, “She’s the star.” Well, actually, I’m the star, but whatever. silly01 Kidding.

My FMIL has lost about 70 pounds since last summer, and looks fantastic. She’ll be having her dress made, and will go looking for the fabric as soon as I give the a-ok. And well, seeing this dress, she’s got it.

So perhaps I’ll go with her to pick out the fabric. Either way, it’s a perfect mother of the groom, OR mother of the bride dress. Made by Alyce Designs, it’s style number 29129.

Very pretty dress! Sexy and not matronly :)

I’m familiar with the “rule” about MOG consulting MOB on attire but just for me personally, it’s an outdated tradition. I don’t feel any need to sign off on what either mom wears or worry about either mother “outshining” the other. I’m happy to go shopping with either of them but they’re adults and they don’t need me picking out their clothes for them.

Ooooh I love that dress! I actually recognize it from a while ago when I was first looking for dresses for my mom. :-) And how nice of her to be so considerate! Although I agree that it’s a bit silly how much fuss people put into what people like mothers wear to their weddings. :-)

I agree with you guys about the tradition being overdone. I think that she had such a bad experience with her daughter’s wedding, that she doesn’t want to step on anyone’s toes in this wedding. She’s very traditional.

And I wouldn’t be picking out her clothes, either. I just LOVE fabric stores!

That is a beautiful outfit for MOG. Just FYI on bestbridalprices.com, their shipping takes FORever but for a nominal (note: sarcasm*) fee of $50, your dress will miraculously appear a month earlier. If she orders soon, you’ll have plenty of time.
