Beehive

In today’s hive:

  1. Kara is having a hard time finding bm dresses in purple, lilac, or violet off the rack, with a nonstrapless option for her nursing bm. She found Maggy London soft lilac dresses at Nordstroms, but they’re pinkish and wash out the blonde bms. Any suggestions where to look? Her wedding is in August and she needs to ship some dresses to Ireland.
  2. Miss Sunset has a color laser printer and is thinking about diy’ing her invites. She’s concerned that cardstock will bend, and the invites won’t lay flat. Has anyone had experience with this or any recommendations?
  3. Susan needs some advice for unique thank you cards, beautiful wrapping paper, favor boxes, OOT boxes, ribbons on a strict budget for her NYC wedding.
  4. M is looking for plain white bags for luminaries. All the ones she’s found have designs.

Check Smart & Final for white paper lunch bags. They sell them in bulk. Maybe another bulk warehouse if you don’t have Smart & Final in your area.

Kara, David’s bridal has a pretty purple color. I wore it in a friend’s wedding this past summer (I’m blonde) and I thought it looked great!

Sunset, consider getting them printed at a Kinko’s or something like that. They will have larger machines, which will save you time and most of the large machines do not bend the paper at all. It will cost a little, but not much, and they should be able to help you if you run into any problems.

Miss Sunset, I diy my save the dates on a color printer using Rossler cards from Kate’s Paperie. They turned out fine…no bending, bleeding, etc.

miss sunset, i’m diying my invites with a color laser printer and i just put them under a heavy book as soon as they were printed. they were still ‘warm’ from the printer and it kept them flat. those i didn’t put under the book right away have a slight curl

Susan, if you live in NYC then check out MJ Trim for ribbons. http://www.mjtrim.com/ For OOT & favor boxes, check out blisswedding market - http://www.blissweddingsmarket.com/store/out-of-town-gift-bags.htm

M–I got mine at Michael’s; I imagine AC Moore or Hobby Lobby would probably carry them too :-)

I’m starting to work on my invites and have a few questions. Do I need to include anything besides the invite, rsvp, directions and hotel accomodations?

My fiance and I are hosting the wedding but we wanted to include our parents names. Is it werid to put our names first and then add “Together with their parents Mr. and Mrs. and Mr. and Mrs.”

Also, does anyone have nice wording for hotel accomodations card? Thanks!!

An envelope question…

Has anyone had problems with sending metallic envelopes throught the mail? I’m worried that the slippery surface will cause problems when the post office tries to stamp them or make any other marks.

Question about dance classes - anyone recommend a good dance instructor or studio in New York City to work on a first dance?

Mrs. Penguin says:

M - try Oriental Trading Co for bags. You can buy them in bulk amounts.

I was wondering if anyone knew where to rent an old, old car (like the one in Titanic where the famous hand sex scene happens) in Los Angeles. I’d love to use it as my getaway car! Does anyone know if this is possible?

Chrissie says:

Has anyone changed their name to Myfirst Hislast Mylast? I’m considering this, and would like to know how the process works.

What happened to Miss Broccoli?

christina says:

Need shoe help. I am already close to 2 inches taller than my fiance. I want cute peep toes or open toes… with a tiny heel- not clunky… I have an ivory dress (that looks just a little off white)…
If anyone can find my shoes- I know you ladies can.

18.
Elsa says:

Chrissie, I’d try Zappos.com or KateSpade.com. I bought my Kate Spade wedding shoes from Zappos. Also try Nordstroms.

christina says:

Susan- the container store has great wrapping paper. http://www.containerstore.com

How hard is it to change both your middle name and last name? My middle name and my fiance’s last name combined together creates a phrase in tagalog that I’d rather avoid (it means breast)..

Mrs. Bee says:

hi elsa,

miss broccoli decided not to continue blogging because she realized she still had so much to do in the last month before her wedding… among other reasons. i’ll go into it further when we post about our new comment policy. :)
