Wedding Morning Gifts

April 4th, 2007 @ 4:37 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

While looking through the bio Miss Strawberry posted in her Woodchuck post, the bride (MrsAnayisnin) received a bouquet of flowers from her husband to be the morning of the wedding. On last night’s “Bam’s Unholy Union” (yes, that show again), even the meat-head Bam was thoughtful enough to send his fiance a gift, as well. This made me wonder how many grooms/brides had gifts for their intended the day of the wedding.

Mr. Kiwi is lovely and romantic. He just doesn’t plan ahead with his romantic ideas, meaning he’ll get me a 6 dollar bunch of flowers on his way home, instead of making a candlelit dinner for me to come home to. Usually I’m okay with this mindset, but I would like something sweet from him the day of, even if it’s something small and silly.

I was considering some cufflinks for him, but now he has decided he wants to pick his own, so that idea may be out.

I am currently brainstorming of what to get him… too bad I got him his big screen tv already (as his engagement present)… that would have been a great surprise to come to after the wedding!

Any ideas?

We were cost cutting like crazy, and that’s just one of the things that went.

I had an Oklahoma State Univ. magnetic dart board ($25) waiting in their dressing room, and he sent me a candy bouquet that morning.

As we are paying for the lion’s share of the wedding ourselves, this was a definite No.

We both decided to just write really nice letters to each other. That way it’s sentimental and heartfelt without being expensive.

(though he doesn’t know I’m surprising him with an engraved IPod with meaningful songs already downloaded on it….just something he really wants and this was an excuse to get it for him….and great for the honeymoon plane ride)

We’re pretty broke since we are both college students. However, I make handmade greeting cards, so I think I’m going to make him a special one and have it delivered to him the morning of somehow. I don’t know if he is going to send me anything.

We are paying for our whole wedding and on a budget too, but I wanted to get him something special and useful. So I am got him initial cufflinks which he can use for the big day and afterwards. For V-day I had a tie made for him in the same material as my dress.

I still have over a year to decide… but I would guess that it’ll be something small and sentimental paired with a mushy love-filled card.

I decided I wanted to get my SO some sort of sports memorabilia, but an autographed jersey from his favorite football player (now pro, but played for our university) was over $400! I found the player’s myspace page and sent him a gushing e-mail . . . he gave me his address and agreed to autograph whatever I mailed him addressed to my SO and mail it back in a self-addressed envelope!

Super cheap and he’ll think I’m the absolute best!

I want to know how many of us think the SO will get us anything. I am currently trying to think of a thoughtful and tactful way of bringing it up that it would be nice if we did this. Any suggestions?

I got my hubby a watch and he got me a digital camera. Although I should point out that he had no idea that some couples exchange gifts on the wedding day until I told him.

Bliss - I’d beat around the bush a bit rather than outright asking him if he wants to exchange gifts, and see what he says. I.e. “I was watching a wedding show on TV this morning and the bride got the groom this lovely present of . Isn’t that sweet? I really like the idea.”

Lol Nanette - he sounds like mine. He also had no idea what favors were or why you would give them out and is still fairly clueless about most wedding lingo. But he’s just a sweet ol’ guy’s guy who loves me to bits, just doesn’t know much about all that
“girly wedding stuff”!

Wow, some of these are great ideas! I still have no idea what to get Mr. K, but there is plenty of time. As for asking if you were “getting” something, I already did, kind of. :)

As we were watching my new favorite show (Bam’s Unholy Union), I saw the gift exchange and smacked Mr. K on the leg, saying “I want something, too!! Are you going to get me something? Laura gets something.” Pointing out a friend who is also getting married. Yes, it makes no sense, and no, I wouldn’t recommend you do this. :)

FYI

i think the gifts should come from the heart, and should fit your SO personality and taste. It shouldnt matter if you get something or not. Your getting married to your best friend and thats what should matter

I’m getting a 100 page journal, and 100 days before the wedding I’m going to start writing something at the top of each page that I love about him. Cool, no? Less cool: shamelessly “adapted” from someone else’s idea.

Our gifts will be surprises, although we’ll be opening them right before we leave town, as apparently mine “can’t travel”. So curious! I’m thinking about getting him a really nice silver compass and have it engraved.

I had a similar idea to Ms. Mouse, although I think what I’m going to do is starting the day of the wedding, write down one thing I love about FI every day for a year and make that his 1st wedding anny gift, since I believe it’s a “paper” anniversary.

I’m getting him cufflinks. He knows I’m getting them for him, he just doesn’t know what they look like (I got him Chinese double happiness ones). He knows he’s supposed to get me something, although he might give it to me earlier than the day-of. Original plan was to give me a purse that I really wanted, but it came in the mail the other day and he couldn’t wait to give it to me. So cute!

I got a book (mentioned on weddingbee first, i believe) that is called “What i love about you,” or something about that. It’s about 50 pages with cute things and excercises to write about your SO. I’ve been working on it for a month now when I travel…it’s so fun to do. He’s gonna love it. As for me, I’ve definitely dropped hints to him!!!

Our wedding was five days after Christmas, so our Christmas presents double as wedding presents.

I got him an iPod engraved with his name and “you’ve made me the luckiest” (adapted from Ben Folds’ “The Luckiest”). He got me a Nintendo DS Lite in Pink! I was a very happy girl.

I’ve been giving him silly t-shirts for years, so it’s only natural that he’s getting this:

I actually started a journal for him TWO DAYS before he proposed (I had no idea that was when he would do it). I’ve been writing letters to him, prayers for us & our marriage, details of things we’ve done throughout the engagement, and hopes and dreams for our future. I’m planning on giving it to him the day of our wedding.

As or right now, we aren’t getting anything for each other. We are paying for most of the wedding ourselves and I am still in college. Our finances are really tight, so we decided our money would be better spend elsewhere. I wanted to get boudoir photos taken and put together a small album. I saw that knottie had taken her own boudoir photos using a self timer on a camera. I might give this a try, as this wouldn’t cost much and would still have a great impact.

I wouldn’t be surprised if my FI surprised me with something even though we decided not to.

I have a knack of finding really old posts and commenting…

FI and I got engaged in British Columbia, in an artsy-fartsy area. We stayed at a B&B that featured paintings of local artists, so before leaving, we went to the co-op gallery where those artists, plus more, display some of their stuff. I really, really wanted tp purchase something to commemorate the weekend, but FRUGAL FI said he really wanted to, too, but couldn’t justify it when we have a lot of expenses right now…..foo. UNTIL, I realized how perfect a groom’s present this would be!!

I have no idea if he’s even thinking he would get me something…. I won’t drop hints, though. If anything, this painting is as much a gift to me!

This isn’t necessarily the thing to give the morning of. We live together, but I’m planning on bunking with my sister at the hotel in the days before the wedding. I suppose I “unveil” it the first night back in the house. Hiding it will be the first challenge, huh?
