People’s Real Life Weddings

April 5th, 2007 @ 1:50 pm by Mrs. Bee

People Magazine’s first ever wedding issue hits newsstands on June 15th. Currently they’re looking for pictures and stories for ugliest bridesmaids’ dresses, wackiest ceremonies, wedding disasters, proposal stories, destination weddings, and weddings that were inspired by a celebrity. The first 250 people to submit a photo online will receive a wedding gift package of samples from their advertisers.

Right now they’re posting submissions they’ve received for ugliest bridesmaids’ dresses on their blog. Of course the original ugly bridesmaids dress archive can be found at uglydress.com.

Have you ever had to wear an ugly bridesmaid’s dress?

I never wore an ugly bridesmaid dress, but I did wear a horrendous flower girl dress when I was younger (which, unfortunately for the bridesmaids, was an exact mini version of their dresses). Think Rachel’s dress from the Friends episode when she’s in Barry and Miny’s wedding, only in bright peachy taffeta/curtainy material with giant burgundy flower/cinnabon type things on the puffy sleeves. It was probably cute for us flower girls, but looking back, I feel bad for the bridesmaids!

I should also add that I say “taffeta/curtainy” material because the taffeta had a swirly pattern on it that I remember seeing on curtains a lot when I was younger.

I have been in six weddings (eight after this summer, including my own). One dress wasn’t ugly, but wasn’t well made!

We went through the ceremony and half the reception–and I should add that I wasn’t exactly feeling this wedding to begin with. I barely knew the bride and she planned the wedding to take place on a big game day for our college football team (which made FI happy, for sure), etc.

So, halfway through the reception, I’m sitting with the few people I knew and my friend (and BM for my wedding) said, “Kari, your dress has a rip in it,” and because of the direction she was looking in, I covered my chest and said, “it’s my boob, isn’t it?” But I was very calm…turns out it was in the rib region, on the seam. Anyway, apparently the bride picked crappy fabric for these handmade dresses and I spent 20 minutes in the bathroom getting safety pinned back in.
