Easter Sunday Proposal

April 9th, 2007 @ 1:06 pm by Mrs. Apple

One year ago yesterday Mr. Apple proposed to me. If it weren’t for it being on Easter Sunday, I would have completely forgotten. Mr. Apple forgot too. I don’t mind really. We’re both pretty bad remembering our anniversary or proposal date. We just passed our 4 year anniversary last month. No celebration. No biggie. I think we’re the kind of couple who accepts one another as is - no frills. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still a girl and would like a nice dinner once in awhile. But if he decides not to do it, then I definitely won’t be throwing tantrums.

I think we’ll start "appreciating" the date more after we’re married. It will also fall on a holiday (Memorial Weekend) so there is no excuse for both of us to forget. :)

I found this cute proposal story on youtube. Look at the amount of work he put into the card!

As for Mr. Apple’s proposal, it was completely unromantic - no dinner, no flowers, no scavenger hunts. But again that’s not Mr. Apple. I would probably start giving him weird looks if he did. :) I give him points for spontaneity. So our story goes, as a crack addict walks by our car he……

Was your proposal story what you envisioned? Second question, did he propose on bended knee?

It wasn’t what I envisioned, but I would have known it was coming. As it was, it was totally “us” and better than I could have imagined and yes - bended knee and all (the all including sweaty us after climbing a mountain and mosquito bites all over us).

I actually don’t think I ever envisioned what it would be like! But just like thistleorchid, it was completely “us” and that’s what means the most to me. He caught me completely off guard - I was in such shock that I thought he was kidding! (which would not be at all funny!) And yes, he was on bended knee!

FI proposed to me on Easter of last year, too. Technically, though, it’s not our engagement anniversary because Easter is on a different date this year :)

FI proposed to me on Mother’s Day last year. It wasn’t what I envisioned but he included our 4 year old daughter and he was on bended knee. I wouldn’t change it for the world.

The proposal wasn’t what I’d envisioned at all. He proposed on Christmas Eve at his family’s place, but he had always dropped hints in past that he wouldn’t do it on a major occasion like Christmas (probably so he could catch me off guard!) I kind of wish he had put more effort into it. I am not particularly close to his family and felt really awkward having his parents there witnessing the proposal. I didn’t want to cry in front of them or act too “mushy” with my fiance in front of them, so I ended up focusing more on covering up my feelings than experiencing my feelings. My fiance also didn’t do anything “extra” to make it special. He didn’t say anything about how much he loves me or anything at all. I just opened the box and he immediately said “will you marry me?” and it was over. I was a little sad that it was quite anti-climactic.

On the other hand, I’ve realized that we girls are taught to dream big dreams about what a pinnacle moment a proposal should be, and even if my fiance had tried to do something big, it would be hard to live up to the hype! The way the proposal unfolds has no bearing on the way the marriage will unfold. It was hard for me to let go of my dream proposal but ultimately it doesn’t matter if I get to marry my special guy.

And I DID get a proposal on bended knee :)

FI proposed to me on Mother’s Day last year using…a Powerpoint business presentation complete with graphs and all ending with him on bended knee. He’s a business guy, so I LOVED it. It was so him. It was nothing like I could have ever imagined (I mean, come on. Who imagines a business presentation?) Somehow he managed to make it utterly romantic and hilarious at the same time, and I wouldn’t change it for the world. Plus, I still have the presentation, so I can just open it up and relive the proposal whenever I want. :-)

I totally understand about the anniversary thing, too. We’re terrible with anniversaries. Neither of us remembered our anniversay, so for 6 years we’ve been celebrating random days in Aug. :-)We probably would have forgotten our engagement date too if it wasnt on Mother’s Day. :-P

We were engaged on the three-year mark from when he asked me out. I was pleasantly surprised since he played off the day and acted like there was nothing extremely special. Even though my mom had accidently snuck the possibility of him proposing (evil mom!), he acted really like nothing was going to happen…

then it was the best surprise of my life (and I LOVE surprises!). He got on his knees and it was the sweetest simplest proposal followed by the most gorgeous ring!

While visiting Taiwan, the night before my birthday in June 2005, FI mentioned that his whole family was expecting him to propose to me the next day. I asked him outright, “Well, are you?” and he answered quite honestly, “No. I really feel like I’m being pressured into it, and it doesn’t feel right.” I was disappointed, but I’ll admit that that’s not the right way to enter into an engagement.

The following spring, he proposed in the form of a crossword puzzle at the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament. Once I figured out that the puzzle was a proposal, he did indeed get down on one knee, and offered three rings and a loose diamond, heirlooms from both families, because he couldn’t decide.

Hi Barbara!! :)

Yup, sounds just like us. We always forget our anniversary etc. And Mr. Plumeria’s proposal was sweet and simple — just like him!

I was proposed to this Easter, bended knee and all, he took me to a gorgeous spot near his house (pavillion by the lake). He had a basket of the plastic eggs, there was a bunny and a tigger snowglobe in the basket as well. He had me look through all the plastic eggs to see what candy was inside, which kind of clued me in except I figured the ring would be in an egg. It was at the bottom of the basket in a red box. It was his grandmother’s ring!!! He did the whole, I can’t live without you, I love you so much, etc. It was so sweet!!!
