About Mrs. Strawberry

For my bridesmaid’s gifts, I’ve decided to give them a few of my favorite things, a’la Oprah. I sent all of my girls mini surveys on their favorite colors and hobbies, and am slowly putting together mini gift baskets for each based on what we both love.

I love Mode De Paris stationery. This boxed set includes 30 cards and 30 lined envelopes. I got the girls each a box in their favorite color.

I’m a sucker for packaging and Mor Cosmetics is my idea of heaven. Their Dolce line comes in fab colors and flavors that hopefully, all of the girls will like!

I also want to include a monogram letter for each girl, like these from Anthropologie.

This is what I’ve got going so far for three of the girls. I have seven total! OY VEY!! I’m going to try to package them all in coordinating cardboard suitcases and try to include a gift that is targeted to each girl’s individual personality.

What about a gift card? I know they can be so impersonal, but if you did a Blockbuster/Hollywood/Netflix one for the film buff, an American Airlines/Carnival/Hotels.com one for the traveler, eBay/Amazon for the bargainista, Saks for the chic, etc. they would be personal but still practical. You could make a little card to go with each one (that looks like a movie ticket, suitcase, shopping bag, etc) with a note from you.

It’s the only drawback to having such a small wedding party - things like newsletters and group projects are silly for us because one is my sister and the other is my former roommate so we talk all the time, almost daily. But I’ll see if I can alter this to make it work for me too! I love the idea of them being the same but detailed differently.

I love this idea! I am planning on doing a “my favorite things” gift as well. So far I have these cool mirror compacts I found, brown purses to wear the day of as i am a handbag freak, Hanky Panky underwear, a gift certificate for manicures the day before the wedding and maybe something else but i havent decided yet. I love those Mor cosmetics on your website so I may get them each a lip gloss…

Also, to go with your suitcase idea, papersource.com has great luggage tags that I bought for each of the gifts. It is functional yet they can use it again!

i love this idea. i’ve been starting to wonder what i’m going to do myself. and miss strawberry, you’re making me think i’m a bad bride b/c i haven’t started the search yet! and our wedding dates are exactly the same (09.01).

I’m curious though… what did these mini-surveys of yours include and look like? and what made you come up with the idea?

Oh don’t feel bad. I get bored at work sometimes! :) These mini surveys were nothing special. Just a few questions via-e-mail. What is your favorite color? And your favorite hobby? I also, asked for their sizes since I am planning on ordering them tees and pants for the wedding to get ready in.

Oo la la c’est manifique!

I love M’s idea of Hanky Panky underwear. They are relatively cheap and come in an array of colors. You can also throw in some cute flip flops from flipfloptrunkshow.com

for the shopping fanatics, what about the book “this little piggy went to prada” its got really fun couture versions of nursery rhymes from anthropologie (not sure if they still have it. . . i got mine at target w/ devil wears prada, so they may have it too). then you could get a little quote book full of sports quotes or travel quotes for the others. if someone is a shoe freak, anthropologie has the book “what your shoes say about you”. for the bargain hunter “daily candy a-z” might be good. otherwise, what about a magazine subscription for the year based on whatever they are into. then you could put the most recent issue in their box and they can read it while getting their hair done, waiting around, etc. . .

One idea for the travel buff is Moleskine (notebook company) is now making “Do-it-yourself” travel books- if you go to their website, they have them for many large European cities. If you know she has an upcoming trip to one of those places, you could get her the appropriate city book. They have great maps, places to write down things you did, fav restaurants, etc. It’s like a journal and travel guide (that you make) all in one. Plus those notebooks are super-chic. Just a thought.

Love the “my favorite things” presentation. I gained a sense of your personal style in that presentation and now think it may be a good exercise for newly engaged couples to tease out themes.

As for the traveler on your list: I travel a lot and my passport is a bit of a mess. A nice leather passport folio may be a good bet. I also love my silk covered flaxseed and lavender eye pillow for long trips. I use it on the plane and in hotels or other places away from home (esp when the curtains don’t close properly and a beam of light seems to cross my face when I’m trying to sleep!)

Very neat idea.

BTW, in the event you run into a snooty salesclerk that tells you there is a limit on how many identical items you can buy (especially at a sale or outlet store) — When this happened to me, I just looked at the salesclerk and said, “Oh, but it’s for my bridesmaids!” and she said, “Well, in that case, how many do you need? They all have to have the same thing! When I was in my cousin’s wedding [blah, blah, blah]” Ha Ha! Don’t be shy to pull the bride card.

This may sound really goofy, but doesn’t “Martha” from comment 9 sound like Martha Stewart?? hehe, how cool would it be if Martha Stewart was a weddingbee fan!?
hahahah. Ok, Imma dork. =)

But this is SUCH a cool idea. I’m just bummed cuz I got all my BM gifts already and cannot push the budget anymore…!!! boooo…

Miss Emerald, I assure you that I am *a* Martha in real life, but not *the* Martha of Martha Stewart fame. ;-)

Oddly, though, I am in the next town over from Nutley, NJ, where MS was raised . . .

I wouldn’t be surprised, however, if some of the MS Weddings staff knew of this site. It’s their job to have their ear to the ground, right?

Have a very Martha day!

What great gift ideas–I wanna be your bridesmaid ;)

But where are you getting the cardboard suitcases? I don’t think I’ve seen many of those around…
