About Open Question

Dear weddingbee,

I want pocketfold invitations with 4 information cards to address all the info that I need to tell people. I got a quote of $1200 for 125 invitations from a company for all the sizes and colors that I want. Is this an ok price?

Do you know of any actual stationers that I could try in Manhattan? I was thinking it could be good for my peace of mind working with an actual person that might be more flexible, than trying to modify a company’s samples into what I want. I’d really appreciate any pocketfold invitation advice.

We kept our invite cost reasonable by getting only the pocketfold folio and the matching envelope from mygatsby. Everything else was DIY: response envelope from an office supply store, interior printed cards (map, response, etc) done at Kinko’s, and the invitation itself done at a small local printer. We also used mid-weight papers, which kept the postage down.

sorry, i don’t know any stationers in manhattan. we’re still planning our invitations, but it will have a pocketfold. one way to cut costs (and not DIY yourself crazy) is to buy the precut cardstock that fits exactly in the pocketfold you want and then have someone (kinkos or a stationer) print those out. then you can assemble the invites yourself - a lot of places charge for the assembly. we’re thinking about doing that ourselves. we are probably using http://www.cardsandpocketsstore.com for our papers. we might also go to michaels and get some fancier paper for the actual invitation part (the paper is actually cheaper), we need to check that the ink will stay.

excluding the printing, we estimated our invites to cost about $650, so it seems to me that $1200 is high, but your invite might be much fancier than ours.

What printing method? What kind of paper? It sounds reasonable but a lot of reasonable will depend on the quality. Of course you could try to DIY or half-DIY to save money but that depends on what level of hassle you are up for…

We bought pocketfolds, invitation mats, and envelopes from Cards and Pockets online and then using the size information on the website, designed the invite and inserts and had them printed at a local copy place. Very cost effective and they look great.

miss spider had a great post on her pocketfold invitations complete with excel spreadsheet here: http://www.weddingbee.com/2006/06/01/nickels-and-dimes-and-pennies-oh-my/

miss hibiscus and lemon are going the diy route and saving a lot of money:

http://www.weddingbee.com/2007/03/06/cutting-paper-not-cake/

and mrs butterfly went the semi-diy route: http://www.weddingbee.com/2006/09/05/completed-invites/

there are too many variables involved to say whether or not that’s a fair price, but if you’re having a company do the entire design and printing, it doesn’t sound too high to me.

you can probably find a much better price with online stores… i actually can’t think of an invitation company in manhattan that does pocketfolds. most brides tend to diy or semi-diy them.

i’ll see what more i can dig up. good luck! :)

I second cardsandpockets.com. They are great to work with. We are trying to DIY but they are our fallback. Also, we will DIY the cards on the inside using the gocco I bought from eBay.

I did pocketfold invites through Paper Presentation, we printed about 250, and it was roughly $1100 - we DIY the stencil on them, the assembly and the direction card but we had them print 2 cards for us. They are in NYC on W. 18th Street just outside of Union Sq. - check out their website http://www.paperpresentation.com/
although to really get an idea for what they have you HAVE to go to the store - I spent 3 hours my first time there! We were so psyched w/our invites I can’t say enough…

I purchased my pocketfolds, invitation paper and outer envelopes from http://www.cardsandpocketsstore.com. I ordered the response envelopes from http://www.paperandmore.com.

I designed the invites myself and printed them at work. I had to use a paper cutter to make the different size inserts for the pocket. Here’s the final product: http://www.xanga.com/shagpop/581405107/invitations.html

I also purchased from Cards and Pockets. They are great to work with! I bought the pocketfold and envelopes from them.

I was going to DIY the pocketfold but it was too much work.

I stamp as a hobby so I have the other material I purchased through it.

I DIY’d the invitation, the invitation mat, double-sided direction card, reception card, and double-sided post card with a belly band around the pocketfold. I printed everything on my inkjet printer and cut all of it (but I started early!). It cost me about $535 for 150 invites.

try Paper Duvet by Regency Thermographics (www.regencythermo.com) for dealers. They have VERY reasonable pocket-style invitations in fun colors. Definitely under $4/each and less if you’re ordering fewer cards.

They will customize your invitation to include any graphic you would like. They are great to work with and there pocketfold prices are cheaper then any place I have seen, and I looked for months! They are really great and the metallic paper is high quality.
