Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!

Top Five

In an homage to one of my favorite movies of all time, High Fidelity, here are my top five first dance songs. Why five? Well, as I was sitting here listening to my ipod and Oasis’ “Wonderwall” came on, I thought to myself- wow, what a great first dance song. With seven months left, my first dance song is turning into a dance-off… Here is the list in no particular order:

1) Death Cab for Cutie’s “I Will Follow You Into The Dark”

2) Steve Tyrell’s “When You Wish Upon A Star”

3) 311 “Love Song” (a Cure song originally)

4) The Beach Boys “God Only Knows”

5) Allison Krauss’ “Now That I Found You”

I will most likely not even use any of these songs. :) I am the worst at this, man. Anyway, what are your Top Five First Dance Songs?

Kenny Chesney’s “She’s Everything” and Celine Dion’s “Have You Ever Been in Love?” are the two that keep alternating in my head. FH and I don’t have an “our song” so it’s hard to pick one as our first dance because I’m big on sentimentality and meaning, and I feel like any song I choose won’t be special enough. I love Alison Krauss - what a voice!

I briefly toyed with “So This is Love” from Cinderella, but found it too hard to dance to. Other contenders are Garth Brooks’ “To Make You Feel My Love,” and Keith Urban’s “Making Memories of Us.”

We wound up using “If I Could Write A Book” by Harry Connick Jr. Other songs I would have gladly used were “Make You Feel My Love” by Bob Dylan, “Harvest Moon” by Neil Young (used for last dance instead), “A Kiss To Build A Dream On” by Louis Armstrong, and “La Vie En Rose” by Louis Armstrong. I could probably think of tons of songs I would love, but those were some favorites that had meaning for me.

I have a special fondness for the movie– a lot of the scenes were shot two blocks away from my old apartment…

Our Top 5:

1) Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Queen (First Dance Song)

and the rest…

2) Maps- Yeah Yeah Yeahs
3) I’ll Stand By You- The Pretenders
4) Forever- Puffy AmiYumi
5) Let’s Do It (Let’s Fall in Love)- Joan Jett/Paul Westerberg version

1) Love Song-311 (It’s our song)
2) Flowers-Cross Canadian Ragweed (We ended up going with this because it fits us so well and is a bit slower than Love Song so it’s easier to dance to)
3) When You Say You Love Me-Josh Groban (We decided to have this song sung by my friend who is an amazing tenor and has had professional opera training. He has the voice of an angel!)
4) Into the Mystic-Van Morrison (This will be played immediately following our first dance and our bridal party will join us on the dance floor).
5) At Last-Etta James

Hi, Miss Kiwi, I love that Allison Kraus song, too, but you might not want to use it, since it’s about how the guy leaves her and she “won’t let him go” since she “built her world around him”…. :)

Hiya - a beautiful alternative to “Baby Now that I’ve Found You” is the Allison Kraus & Union Station version of “When You Say Nothing At All” - a gorgeous wedding song and a little of the same vibe!

Miss Kiwi- At least you’ve narrowed it down to 5, here’s 5 of mine but I honestly can’t narrow it down below 15!

1. I will- the Beatles
2. Never My Love- The Assocciation
3. Luckiest- Ben Folds
4. Beautiful- Gorden Lightfoot
5. More- Bobby Darrin

And Love Song is one our list too! I’m a hugh fan of The Cure and FI is a hugh fan of 311, so this is a no brainer.
