Barn Board School

April 11th, 2007 @ 1:27 pm by Mrs. Pumpkin

Whew! Last Thursday was my last day of law school! I can’t believe that 3 years has gone by so quickly. It seems like yesterday when I walked into the College of Law, scared that I couldn’t do it, scared that I wasn’t smart enough, scared that no one would like me, and now here I am, 3 finals away from an LL.B.! I still can’t wrap my brain around that.

What does this have to do with wedding planning you ask? A lot! Not only am I 3 finals away from an LL.B., but that means that I am 3 finals away from full time wedding planning! All of those red exclamation marks screaming at me on The Knot will finally get taken care of. Not that I have really stopped planning, I just haven’t been able to blog recently because I was writing my last paper (a 50 pager no less!) and was sick of looking at my trusty laptop. But, we’ve made up and are best friends again so here are some pictures of the signs we are going to use for the wedding:

I am planning on posting them in the appropriate places around the park we are getting married in. Here are some of my inspirations (stolen from unknown Knot bios):

My FMIL wants to put helium balloons in the shape of wedding bells on them. If anyone has any ideas on how to politely kibosh that please let me know!

Miss Pumpkin, I know exactly how you feel. I actually couldn’t wait anymore and I am getting married this year, 1 year before graduation. Funny, the reason being is next year I will be too busy with my senior design project and studying for exams to plan a wedding :)

The signs are adorable. I thought of doing that before when we were looking into a garden wedding (not anymore).

LOL! I don’t think there’s a polite way to “kibosh” anything your FMIL suggests– I guess just take it in strides and tell her how you would love to incorporate her ideas into your planning because you appreciate her input but essentially make sure she knows you have final say!

Your DIYs are awesome– a lawyer with talent! =) Good luck with the rest of the planning, I am also behind on my knot checklist… but go figure I work 50hrs a week, am back at school for a second degree, planning for a wedding, and trying to purchase a home… gotta love it! I can’t wait till things settle down!

Love the signs! I suggest you tell your FMIL what she wants to hear (yes, it’s a fabulous idea, etc.) & then “accidentally” forget to make it happen. Just make sure you tell her that you’ve got someone to take care of it so that she does not offer to do it herself. You will have bigger “battles” with her, so try to take it in stride & pick her battles wisely…Good luck!

Or if she’s economically concious, then tell her they’re ridiculously expensive.

A law degree, that’s awesome! Your blog reminds me a bit of http://www.bridezilla.com, the ladies over there seem pretty smart too.

These are so cute!

Make sure you bring a hammer or something sturdy to pound them into the ground. I’ve taken off my shoe on more than one occasion to pound signs into hard dirt!

Hi M - we actually got the wood from my FBIL’s farm! There was an old barn there that they were tearing down so we used some of the wood from that to make the signs.
If you aren’t lucky enough to have farmers in your family I am sure that you could get nice boards from Home Depot or other home renovation stores and they might even cut it for you!

For those who don’t want to DIY, check ebay! I found lots of these kinds of signs. Set up a search and you’ll get a notification as they come available.
