Our first ballroom dance class was a lot less painful (literally and figuratively) than I thought it was going to be. We scheduled our first class for around 7pm, a time that was most convenient for both my FI and me, as we are chained to the desk until after 5.
We arrived at Dance With Me and were pleasantly surprised at what we saw - I, being a native to the area, did not come with high expectations of the studio, as it was across the street from a pasture and farm and tucked behind a Walgreens Pharmacy. However, the studio turned out to be behind the pharmacy in its own large building - the main ballroom was almost exactly like what you see on those PBS ballroom dancing competitions - large, great chandeliers from the ceiling, a main stage, and a huge dance floor of course.
We met with our instructors, Imene and Hans, and started discussing what exactly we were looking to learn (waltz, foxtrot, rumba, etc.) for our first dance. Well, since we do not have a song picked out yet, we decided that a waltz was the most generic and popular for a first dance, and started to learn the basic steps and a turn.
All in all, it was really fun - even my FI said that he really enjoyed it and is planning to continue our lessons and attend the group classes that they offer!
Oh yeah, he only stepped on my feet a couple of times
but fortunately for me, I was wearing pointy toed heels that day, so he only stepped on my shoe - not my foot!
We have our next class in a couple days!
