Hair Trial Numero Dos

April 11th, 2007 @ 9:33 am by Mrs. Apple

I wasn’t 100% pleased with my first hair trial. I had envisioned a particular “hair look” for myself but couldn’t seem to relay the same vision to my hairstylist. She got pretty close but I just didn’t feel… she was the right one. So one point five months left before the big day, I had my second hair trial with Miriam E. Azary in Plano. I found her by searching online reviews and ratings - and she got a 9.7 out of 10 on Citysearch.

I really wanted a romantic, wispy, soft look (similar to my first trial below) with a low bun, but I didn’t like the front at all. I felt I was all face.

So, here’s a photo of my second trial.

Different. I like it! Higher set and she actually created a little bit of volume by adding these odd squishy rollers into my hair. She would then pin them and smooth it out. I’ve never seen this before but it worked.

Which do you like better? High or Low? ( I have black whiskers popping out of the high bun because of my hair pin on the other side.)

I love the high bun! I prefer it over the low bun because I don’t like to feel hair on my neck and there’s slightly less of a risk of it snagging on something (dress, collar, necklace) and coming apart.

2.
Miss Tulip says:

I really like the high bun, for the same reasons as n. Also, if it’s hot during your wedding, a low bun will just make it feel so much hotter because all of your hair is on your neck.

toki says:

I like the high bun, too. I love the volume and it looks more sophisticated.

4.
T says:

I prefer the low bun. It’s much more original and romantic looking. The high bun is more formal in my opinion and has been done so many times.

Miss Almond says:

hmmm…I like the lower bun because I imagine the pin looks better with the simpler look. The higher bun looks more busy. And with such a beautiful pin, it seems like there is a lot going on.

kandaceandjason says:

The low bun looks like you could do that yourself. If you’re paying for this to be done and you like the extra volume, then I think the high bun is a no brainer!

nhung says:

i like the high bun because it elongates and accentuates ur slender neck, giving you a very elegant, regal profile. i don’t know if i would add anything hairpin to it though because it is more busy than the low bun.

i guess the more important question is which hairstyle goes better w/ your wedding dress?

g says:

you could always do a third trial and try something in between. especially if you had a certain look in mind…

J.W says:

I like the high bun best. It’s beautiful, but it also shows off your lovely neck and profile.

high

Didi says:

High Bun is sooo pretty!! I agree totally with k&j that the low bun looks more homemade.

Mrs Peach says:

i think both look great! but i like the high bun a bit better. altho i wouldn’t say it’s a soft romantic look… maybe elegant? so yeah… depends on if you’re still going for that. also what kind of veil will you have? can we see how the front looks? how about the flower from your first trial? wow lots of questions. haha. just some things to think about i guess. =)

ocicats says:

the high bun looks more “finished” looking and it elongates your neck. it looks better on you than the low bun.

Ms. Albatross says:

Honestly I think the first run better. Maybe the first run need s the front side bangs to be a little more whispy, but the overall look is more original and romantic, as someone above said.

The high bun looks fine but is very very wedding typical.

Katie says:

Love the second look! I think when you are paying for someone to do your hair, it shouldn’t look like something you could do at home.

The curlers are really a neat idea.

16.
Christine says:

I like them both, but if you’re going for a romantic, wispy look - go with the first one. The second one is more stiff, not soft like you sound like you’re going for. I would go with the first, but have her change the front up a little so it’s not so in your face.

katiey424 says:

The second look seems more “made up”. I found Artistik Edge on Citysearch and they did a different look for each of my bridesmaids. I could share pictures if you’d like.
Artistik Edge is in Dallas at Royal and Abrams.

Miss Snow Pea says:

High. It just looks more shapely and an elegant.

Miss Bluebear says:

I like the second one…it looks more sophisticated and different….it’s very pretty from the side…=)

Darlene says:

The 2nd one is beautiful! Do you have anymore photos with how the hairpin looks with the higher bun? I think the higher bun also creates a prettier silhouette from the side.

21.
Carol says:

The high one looks better. The low one definitely looks amateur and plus, it looks like it will fall out after a few minutes of dancing.

SL says:

I am partial to low buns, but I agree with kandaceandjason that it looks like you could do it yourself. The high bun looks great in my opinion! Very flattering as well! It does look more formal, but it’s your wedding!!

cka102007 says:

I like the second one. It has a more elegant feel to it than the first one. In my opinion, the first hair trial looks like no thought went into and your hair was lazily put up into pins. Definitely the high bun.

Laura says:

I have a personal bias towards high updos and don’t particularly like low buns in general, so it should come as no surprise that I prefer the high one. But to be more specific, I agree that the second trial with the higher updo is much more slimming for you and looks more polished. I dont’ think it looks overly structured though, and if you’re looking for a romantic, wispy look, I’m sure this hairdresser could give you a few more loose curls! I think she did a GREAT job - the way the hair is pulled back in sections looks quite unique to me actually.

The low bun, I have to agree, looks less special, although the simpler look is more conducive to that awesome hair pin you have for it.

L says:

I like the second up-do! I agree with what some of the comments have mentioned about the low bun, that it looks like you could do it yourself, and honestly, I think it looks a bit messy, like you just decided to sweep your hair up at the last minute. I guess it all depends on the look you’re going for. And just by the pictures, the second hair trial DOES elongate your profile, as someone else mentioned. =)

tina says:

I like the second one because it has a more elegant look to it. The low one looks so simple.

Miss Plumeria says:

Hi Barbara!! I think it really depends on what you want… the first one is definitely softer. By looks alone, though, I gotta admit I loveeee the second one. It looks so pretty!! Sometimes you just have to try something, even if it’s different from what you think you want… ’cause it just might work out to be exactly what you want! As to the style being typical — it might be, but the hairpin is definitely not, and that will be what people notice, really. Love it!

28.
Laura says:

Both look great! the second one is much more practical that way when people hug you at the reception you don’t have to worry about your hair getting pulled.

29.
kanipark says:

both are beautiful.

lauren says:

i prefer the low bun. it looks really romantic and soft.

but i think it all depends on what type of gown you have too. i see the low bun with a more simple, casual gown (like a strapless a-line or mermaid dress), and the high bun with a more elaborate gown (one with lots of beading, lace, details).

31.
Mrs. Bee says:

although the low bun is loose and romantic and pretty, i like the updo a wee bit better. i think your hairpin will go a long way in softening up your overall look and making it more playful if you go with the updo. that hairstyle also looks like it’ll last the night. ;)

Joyful says:

The second hair trial looks amazing on you!

Diana says:

I really like the second hair trial!

Ophelia says:

I like the second hair trial SOOO MUCH BETTER!
