About Mrs. Pumpkin

Thank you so much for all of your warm welcome wishes! I am so excited to be a part of the Weddingbee community and I hope that you find my blogging to be interesting, thought provoking, helpful and above all entertaining!

One thing that I have realized while planning my wedding is that I may be in a very different place with very different options, but the basic ideas are the same. So even though I know that 99.99% of you will never even visit Regina (although you should, it really is a pretty and very friendly city!), hopefully some of my DIY and more universal ideas and advice will still help you!

Now, to answer Iris’s question on why I chose a pumpkin as my character, you may know that 2007 is the year of the Veggies on Weddingbee. So I chose pumpkin from the list of possible vegetables because I think it is a cute name, my body sort of resembles a pumpkin and I was very close to having a fall pumpkin themed wedding - so it seemed appropriate.

It says that I love scrapbooking in my profile, so Becky asked me to share some of my scrapbook pages. You can check out some of my favorite pages here.

And now, 6 Random Things About Me!

1. For the life of me I CANNOT make instant rice. I have tried many many times and I always follow the directions to a T, but it always comes out either too mushy or not cooked through. I think I am a reasonably intelligent woman but rice baffles me every time. I even bought the Pampered Chef rice cooker (basically an idiot proof rice cooker) and I still can’t do it. Damn you Uncle Ben’s!

2. Before I had contact lenses I used to cut my eyelashes because they would hit the inside of my glasses every time I would blink. I know, I know, poor little me with the too long eyelashes but it was really annoying, I swear! Thank God they grew back.

3. I buy make-up like crazy (I LOVE Sephora!) but I never wear it. I buy it because it is all so pretty, but I really don’t know how to put it on properly and I always feel like a clown when I actually do myself up. I have a closet full of all of this fabulous stuff and the most I ever wear is tinted moisturizer, some concealer where I need it, some loose powder to de-shine and some Carmex. If I am going out at night to a function or the bar, I will add some mascara and maybe some very light lip gloss. Oh how I wish I knew how to make sexy smokey eyes without looking like a reverse raccoon…

4. I love board games but I am horrible at them! My favourites are Scrabble and Monopoly and I am up for a game whenever I can find someone who will play with me. But I NEVER win.

5. I am extremely organized and plan to have everything done well ahead of time EXCEPT for my school work. When it comes to school I am always disorganized and do things at the very last minute. I am sure that there is some sort of psychological explanation for that but I don’t know what it is.

6. I rarely swear *except* when I am playing video games. Something about Playstation turns me into a trucker with a potty mouth. I will put expletives into the craziest combinations that you have ever heard when I can’t make the Cat in the Hat float on his umbrella, or when Chad Johnson drops a pass I have thrown him in the end zone.

I’m an awful rice maker too!! I finally perfected my technique and it actually kind of works!

Here’s how I do it: Measure equal parts rice and water, per box instructions (I usually do 2 cups of each so we have leftovers). Put the rice and water in a pot on the stove. Wait for it to boil, give it a stir, cover the pot, and take it off the heat. Leave it for about 3 minutes then give it a stir. After another 3 minutes all the water should be soaked in to the perfect fluffy rice.

The stupid box says to add the rice after the water boils….. it never worked for me and I always ended up with the sticky/watery/crunchy version. Good luck!

Yippee! Another veggie! Welcome Miss Pumpkin!

I can’t make instant mac and cheese for the life of me! Don’t know why! I just can’t gauge the ingredients correctly. Mr. Snow Pea wants to grow pumpkins in our back yard. I asked, why do we need to do that when we have a farm down the road! :)

Welcome and I hope you enjoy blogging on WB.

i could have written part of this myself…especially the part about swearing during video games…once i got lectured on watching my mouth while playing ms. pacman. i swear that kid was not there when i first started yelling.

i was going to suggest a rice cooker until i saw you had one. lol. i don’t know if instant rice holds up well in a rice cooker [i use regular rice] and i wish i could give you tips but all i know is that i’m supposed to rinse the rice off first [to remove the starch, at least that's what my mom says], let it soak for a bit and then measure the water to a certain point on my hand. and i’ve never cooked it on the stove [i use a rice cooker since i don't have to fuss with it] but maybe you can pick up some tips!

I always thought it was two parts water to one part rice. But then again, I don’t eat rice at all. Welcome, Miss Pumpkin!

Thanks for sharing.

I have the same eyelash “problem” and some of the best “style” advice I got for my wedding came from my gown designer who said to go very light on the eyemakeup, and absolutely no mascara. He was absolutely right — the photos were very bridal/natural and nicely capture my real self (I never wear mascara anyway).

Now when I get my glasses fitted I always put the bridge partway down my nose before they finalize the bend in the earpieces. This always leads them to question me and I have to explain…

I like your style already! I lived in North Dakota as a kid and guess where you vacation when you live in the big N.D.? . . . you guessed it Regina! I have such fond memories of hotels with waterslides in them, and that water park down town . . . sigh . . . great city.
