Mrs. Plum, Dallas Age and Occupation in 06: 22, Accountant by day/Floral and Event Designer by night and weekends Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Security Admin Engagement Date: December 31, 2004 Wedding Date: June 29, 2007 Venue: Marie Gabrielle Restaurant and Gardens About Me: I have been engaged for about two years now - yes, a long engagement, because my fiance and I wanted to wait until I graduated college, which I did this past summer! He proposed after dating just two months - crazy, I know, but 2 years later, here we are, still crazy in love :-). We are having not one, but TWO weddings and TWO receptions in one weekend - American-style and Vietnamese-style - in Dallas, Texas, where I was born and raised!
About Mrs. Plum

One of the largest concerns I have about my wedding, is the fact that it is in the summer - which means it’ll be super hot. Whereas I live in Texas, am getting married here, and am having an outdoor ceremony, the heat is going to be a huge deal.

To help alleviate some of the heat, I am making fan programs for my guests, so they can read about our ceremony while cooling themselves off! (I think I will also provide some cute water bottles as well…. but that will come later.)

Here is my first attempt:

I used my custom monogram designed by the lovely and talented Sarah of Truly Smitten, and just printed out the template that I made in Microsoft Word using my inkjet printer on linen-textured cardstock that I bought from the Scrapbook Warehouse in Coppell. The monogram will probably be darker when I get the actual cd files from Sarah some time soon. happy03 I will also be using this oh-so-cute monogram on EVERYTHING possible - my aisle runner, stickers, favors, you name it~!

I bought the bird eyelets off ebay. I am still trying to tweak it, and the love bird brad will actually be punched into the paper later on, but you get the idea….

They are beautiful! I love the program/fan combo and the bird eyelet is that little extra that makes it perfect and unique!

We’re planning on doing this same idea and bought the crop-a-dile which fastens brads faster than anything I’ve ever done before. Not sure it would work on the bird eyelet though. You may want to consider it though b/c after the 55th pounding of the little mallet to set an eyelet, you may want to kill yourself…

Awesome job! As thistleorchid mentioned, I also suggest using Crop-A-Dile and it does work with shaped eyelets.

Julee… you can download a template from http://www.gnyc.net/senseless/2006/06/10/diy-fan-programs/. Instructions are included as well.

I love the bird brad detail! I love and appreciate small details. I thought about doing fans as well but I just can’t seem to fit all the information on it.

It looks great! I did a trial run of a fan program (posted in my blog) but decided to scrap it, although FI LOVED it. :-( We are needing 200 and I just couldn’t bring myself to do that!

Did you also find that the blades flap together and create a little noise? Not a gigantor deal, but something I wasn’t crazy about. Nonetheless, brides do them all the time for a reason! :-)

The eyelet is perfect!

i totally agree - Dallas is HOT. i’ve been thinking about providing parasols. not sure how your ceremony site will be (time of day, temp that day, etc.) but maybe it’ll provide some extra shade for your guests too?

I am looking to make my own fan programs as well… but i’m stumped when it comes to printing them out. Could someone help me with this by sending a template. I would really appreciate your help!

Thanks
