Paper Process

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucketere’s* a sneak peak at my invitation process. Because I know some of my guests stalk this blog, this is all you get until I send them out sometime near the end of May. I do have a digital mockup/comp done, a flimsy black & white mockup done, and the digital files all set up. I just need to finish drawing my map already (I’ve been working on it on and off for months now!), and then I’ll be ready to go to press (aka my Gocco!). Let’s just say it involves a layout very similar to Miss Plumeria’s (I promise I’m not a total biter and thought this up awhile ago…What can I say? Great bees think alike!), securely bound components (one of my peeves are invites that create a paper ‘explosion’ when you pull them out of the envelope), white Gocco ink on colored paper, and envelopes I’ve been itching to use for something for about 7 years now.

Sketch showing each component. [ca. January 2007]

My crazy paper cutting AutoCAD drawing. [ca. very late last night]

I know the printer who will be cutting my large paper has software to do this with, but I needed to figure it out in order to determine paper quantities for my order, and which size would yield the lowest cost per [my invite size] page.

Minutes after placing my paper orders (of course) I remembered that I have quite a few other paper projects coming up, and I ordered just enough overage for potential invitation mistakes. I won’t have enough for thank you cards, table tents, favor tags, and programs. (I may just find a crisp white card stock at my local Kelly Paper and a fresh inkjet cartridge for that.) I then realized I haven’t even started thinking about designing these items yet. I felt a little DIY-paper-project overwhelmed for a few minutes, but I know I’ll get it done somehow (probably with the help of an assembling army that I need to soon assemble). Or I’ll just start eliminating things. Nothing makes you realize what’s important and what’s not more than running out of time with which to do everything.

*Today’s letter, H, brought to you by Paper Source.

Miss Kakerwhart, I ordered some drafting vellum and some large pieces of flat card stock from Paper Source. I promise I’ll reveal all details when the invites are done and sent out.

Monkey, and you thought you knew but you have NO idea!

See, what’s sad about wedding planning is, I’ve already done and sent my invitations, but I’m dying to see your envelopes.
