About Mrs. Pumpkin

Okay, maybe they aren’t exactly tied up with string but getting packages in the mail is definitely one of my favourite things! Our apothecary jars for the refreshment table at the ceremony finally came yesterday. One thing that I don’t like about our ceremony site is that because the ferry can only take 20 people at a time and it takes about 12 minutes per trip to take people to the island, we have to ask some of our guests to arrive very early for the wedding. So, we are trying to make the island as comfortable as possible while those guests wait. One of the things that we are doing to make it a nicer wait is a refreshment table with juice and maybe some appetizers.

We ordered these jars on ebay (a great seller who runs the following store), and since they are so heavy we had to go with the slowest shipping option to keep it as cheap as possible. So I have been waiting a LONG time for these babies. Consequently, the day after I ordered them I found some similar jars at Home Outfitters (isn’t that always the way?), but these were worth the wait - they are exactly what I wanted. Here are some pictures:

I used a pocketbook to show you just how huge they are!

Here are some of the pictures I am using for inspiration on the refreshment table:

I think that we are going to have iced tea (Canadian iced tea :)), pink lemonade and fruit punch to keep our pink and brown colour scheme going. Hopefully this will make it a bit more bearable for our guests that day and look pretty as well!

Those look great! And by the way, I love the book you chose to display with them, probably one of my all-time favorites. :)

We’d been planning this jar thing for a while, but I’d never seen that second to last photo, with the fruit. That’s definitely something to add to the list.

We’re doing lemonade, cranberry juice (wedding’s on Cape Cod; I think cranberry juice is required in local statutes), possibly iced tea, and an old family punch recipe. At some point later in the evening, we’ll make vodka, rum, and a few other mixers available along with the jars, so people can actually make Cape Codders.

It’s my favourite too Leslie. As you can see it is practically falling apart because I have read it so many times!

Sarah - I think that what they have done in that picture is made ice rings with the fruit in it and that would look super cute with cranberries! I am going to have to try a Cape Codder…

I love this idea! I know that I am very premature in my planning (wedding will be in 2009, and we’re not “officially” engaged yet), but I have been collecting random glass pieces over the past year, and I just might have to steal this!
Also, LOVE the book. I have my great-grandpa’s old hardback copy, so it’s not falling apart yet!

Ha, in the U.S. a “pocketbook” is a purse/handbag… I see you mean a small book that would fit in a pocket. : )

Love the idea, and also am using it… hate to disappoint you, but I paid a really, really cheap amount for mine at walmart… when I bought my jelly jars for my hanging lanterns for the reception. (less than $10 and then the jars were like 4.99 for a pack of 12 and 2.99 for the wire)
