Miss Kiwi just posted a poll asking about day-after brunch plans, so I thought I’d share ours!

We’ve gone back and forth on the brunch thing–do we want to have one, how big will it be, what will we serve, will it be at home or at a restaurant, etc.

Ultimately we decided it would be most cost-effective to have it at my parents’ home. We also decided to limit the brunch guest list to pretty much the same people as our rehearsal dinner list: everyone in the wedding party, close friends, and extended family we’re really close to. The invite list is at about 30 people.

Since it’ll be the day after the wedding, and brunches are so uncommon in the Midwest, we’re trying not to turn it into a big deal. We worded the enclosure “A casual brunch and gift opening party will be held on Saturday, May 26th at 11 am, at the home of Mom and Dad Blueberry”. We’re doing minimal decoration to the house, and overall it will be really casual–Dad is going to pick up fruit and bagels and stuff from Sam’s Club, we’ll have coffee and orange juice, and of course leftovers from our dessert buffet!

We’ll have the entire first floor of the house open, the bad dog will be at the kennel for the weekend (Maxie will be upstairs sedated, and Mr. Blueberry’s parents’ dog Molly will have the free run of the house), and after a while mingling and talking, Mr. Blueberry and I will open wedding gifts for anyone who wants to stick around and watch (we understand that many may not). Then, when things are starting to wind down, anybody left will see us off on our minimoon –stand at the end of the driveway and wave!!! smiley502

I think it should be a fun way to end the wedding celebration, and we’re excited that we’ll have the chance to get to wind down and reflect with our closest friends and family.

I am doing the exact same thing! I live in MN and many of our guests are not familiar with a brunch so we are doing bagels from Panera and muffins from Sams.

Perfect! Enjoy!

One thought about opening gifts at the brunch — Maybe only open gifts given by people who are actually there at the brunch and ask you to open their gifts in front of everyone else.

We saved the gifts people brought to the wedding to open at home together when we got back from our honeymoon. It was much easier to transport the gifts safely in their wrappings and boxes, and it was something we really looked forward to do together as a couple. Part of the fun was that the two of us could freely comment on each item without feeling we were being monitored, or that others were judging the gifts and comparing it to what they were giving. We didn’t want it to be about that; my mother was DYING of curiosity (read: voyeurism, nosiness) about what others gave, what it cost, etc. so this was a good solution — telling her we were saving it to enjoy together when we got back from our honeymoon.
