Cake Update

April 13th, 2007 @ 12:05 pm by Mrs. Pumpkin

After reading all of your great responses to my previous post and talking about it with Mr. Pumpkin and my SIL, we have decided to choose a new cake design. I just couldn’t imagine standing behind a fake cake and pretending to cut it, I would have felt like a fool. And when I feel like a fool it shows ALL over my face - you should see my Grad photos where they made me hold a bunch of roses and look into the distance! Silliness, I just can’t do it. So, we need a new cake design. What do we all think of these options?

They are all very pretty cakes and I think they would be much easier to make than my original. Of course they would all be changed to some sort of pink brown combo, and the last one with the purple flowers would be changed to brown branches and pink cherry blossoms. The blue one would be changed to just a white cake with brown branches but no birds (Miss Plum - have you seen this cake? I have a feeling you might like it!).

I think I am leaning towards the square cake with pink and red flowers on it, but I’m not sure. I will also have to see which ones she thinks she can do. I’m guessing that the first one will be taken off the table as soon as she sees it but you never know! She agreed that if we want to do a cake with different layers we can just make the more complicated designs be the fake layers and she can take her time icing them, and then the plain layers would be the real ones so that she doesn’t have to do as much work the night before the wedding. Thanks for all of your advice, I am feeling much better about this now!

Which one is your favourite?

I love them all; the first one I have in my “cake” file—I want something similiar for my 30th birthday party because I was not over the top thrilled with my wedding cake, so I want to make up for it. :) Good luck!

The second one with the ribbons! You could always add flowers, too, as you liked…

I agree with cubangirl, I like the second one with the ribbons. It’s very stylish and you can easily add on your fav flowers!

did sil also discuss this with her mother, or did you discuss with the baker directly? this would be awful to hear second-hand.

Love the stripes/ribbons. I did a post on my blogs about ribboned/striped cakes–I just love them!

Branchy/cherry blossom second and it seems to fit with your theme well, based on your invites. :-)

Cherry blossoms! I love cherry blossoms. That said, they’re all gorgeous, you can’t go wrong with any of them. Those birds are really cute, too. Have you seen the little sugar songbirds Wendy Kromer has for sale on her site? Adorable! (And I think pretty tiny.)

I like the second one but they are all very pretty. Adorning with ribbons and flowers are a good choice. How about searching for a cherry blossom ribbon? that way it will match your invites and simple for your relative to make (not too much piping). =)

I think the one you choose would be easy for her… but instead of sugar flowers, use real flowers instead.

All of the them are very pretty!!!

They are all nice but my favorite is the square one with the brown ribbon and pink & red flowers.

All pretty… is the relative still making it? If so, get her sign-off about what level she can manage. These are still not super-fast in terms of handiwork required.

I love the third and fourth ones- and the fourth one looks elaborate but could be supplemented by sheet cakes.

i love the first one! it looks so beautiful. i also like the fourth one. if ur relative is making this, i think it will be the easiest for her since not much design is involved. the flowers make that cake looks nice and vibrant!
