Beehive

April 16th, 2007 @ 4:05 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  1. its_v is looking for recommendations for a non-religious wedding officiant in northern New Jersey, and fast! (her wedding is in a few short months)
  2. stp812 would like song suggestions for the following parts of her wedding: recessional, first dance, father/daughter and mother/son dance, anniversary dance, and last dance. She knows these are personal choices, but she’s curious to hear what others have selected.
  3. JNS needs a good dressmaker in the Atlanta area to make a few bridesmaid dresses. Anyone know any?
  4. lucy is looking for a dressmaker for bm dresses in la.

stp812 -
* Recessional - the normal there goes the bride song
* First dance - She’s Everything by Brad Paisley
* F/D - still deciding, will either be Butterfly Kisses by Collin Raye or My Little Girl by Tim McGraw
* Last dance - Have You Ever Been in Love by Celine Dion
* Don’t know what an anniversary dance is, but after our F/D and M/S dances, we are going to ask all married and engaged couples to dance with us (not sure of the song yet)

Wow, and as I wrote that, She’s Everything just came on the radio. It’s a sign!

stp812 - We haven’t finally nailed down all our choices but here are some contenders:

Recessional: I want something upbeat! I’m considering Christina Aguilera’s “Ain’t No Other Man”

First Dance: three choices:
Brad Paisley’s “The World”
Josh Groban’s “When You Say You Love Me”
Michael Buble’s “Everything”

We’re going to immediately segue from a slow dance into a salsa song but we haven’t chosen the song yet.

Father/daughter dance:
Eric Clapton’s “My Father’s Eyes” or
Tim McGraw’s “My Little Girl”

Mother/son dance:
Rod Stewart’s “Have I Told You Lately”

I don’t really care what the last dance is, I’ll let the DJ pick something slow! I also don’t know what the anniversary dance is.

Recessional: start with typical and switch to Hallalujah chorus

First dance: Memories of us by Keith Urban

Father Daughter/ Mother Son: Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong (we considered I Loved Her First by Heartland but want to combine the dances so switched to something more neutral)

Anniversary Dance- we’re not doing it but I would go with something classic like Frank Sinatra or Nat King Cole

Last Dance- Last Dance by Donna Sommers, Let’s Get it On, or Come Away with Me by Norah Jones

I need the tea sandwich recpies post! I cannot find it. Please help. All the recipes were in the comments section of someone’s post that wasn’t directly related to tea sandwiches. I have searched the site and the tags. I hope someone has a better memory than me. It was a few months ago.

2. stp812 - we are having non-traditional music for the ceremony, since FH is a music snob…

Processional: A Mark Mothersbaugh song from the movie, The Life Aquatic; By & By, Brett Dennen
Recessional: Blessed, Brett Dennen
First Dance: I Just Wanna Dance With You, John Prine
Father/Daughter: Hallelujah, I Love Her So, Ray Charles
Mother/Son: Georgia, Ray Charles (guess where FMIL is from?!)
Last Dance we haven’t decided yet, but we have this great blues band, so I’m sure it will be something fun!

7. Roslyn: I don’t remember the post, but my friend made these cucumber and mint sandwiches and they were really good! http://teatimeworldwide.com/Entertaining/tea_sandwiches.html

question for the hive, is $800 outrageous for an officiant? We’re having a non-religious ceremony and it would prob. last only max, 25-30 min.

I am looking for an affordable way to learn how to apply wedding day makeup for my destination wedding. I live in NYC but am willing to travel to the neighbouring suburbs.

Thanks,
Susan

JNS - Gigi has good reviews from some of the girls on the Atlanta Knot message boards. Her website is http://www.atlantabridesmaid.com.

You should post your question on the Atlanta Knot message board. Some of the brides have had bad experiences recently with some of the dressmakers they used.

Susan — Try Andy Paige (see http://www.centsofstyle.org). She has a Beauty Boot Camp seminar, lesson at home (including for groups — could be a fun bridesmaid get-together party activity?), and video. There is also a video segment on the website.

Susan–MAC actually offers compliementary counseling on this with purchase (although you need to make an appointment). I did this and then did my own makeup for our destination wedding. It would not have done it any differently.
