DIY Wedding Photos

April 16th, 2007 @ 3:14 pm by Mrs. Bee

I saw this link on orchard_broome’s blog, and it’s pretty darn cool! Rain and Peter used a tripod and a DSLR camera to take their own wedding photos during their honeymoon in Europe. And they were actually photography novices! They’ve put together a great website explaining every step of the process, so you can attempt diy wedding photography yourself. Check out some of the gorgeous shots that they took in Versailles, London, Oxford, and Paris.

I don’t think I could…in fact, it seems like this is the single most popular area brides choose to splurge on. :-)

I know one bride in Seattle on The Knot who DIY’d her pics and she was unhappy in the end.

Really, professionals are professionals because they are seasoned, trained, and know what they’re doing. I couldn’t even feel good about ruining my wedding pics because there’s a shadow across my face or the flash washes everything out. :-)

Wow…that’s awesome! I would never do my own photos. But ,I do intend to Photoshop many of my own for a varity of creative projects.

Super cool! I think I’d do engagement photos or bridal portraits this way, but I wouldn’t trust anyone but a professional for my actual wedding day.

Those are really beautiful pictures but there is no way I would try that! I like taking pictures and I think I might even be sort of good at it but I would be so disappointed if they didn’t turn out right. I also wouldn’t want to be worried about it all day - you only get one shot at this and some of my favourite wedding pictures are the spontaneous moments that you could never catch yourself.

Wow, that’s pretty cool. Photography is something I don’t think I’d ever to attempt to DIY — and I had to take photo classes for my degree! — but for a trip like that it works! :) Cool idea. I think the post authors are wayyy more talented than they give themselves credit for — there’s a lot of natural instinct that goes into choosing composition etc. and it’s really obvious that they have a strong sense for it.

We are definitely considering it. As much as I’d like to hire an amazing photographer, it just isn’t in the budget.

DIY photos aren’t too hard with a creative mind and a great camera like a good digital SLR and a tripod (if you take a little time to learn how it works). There’s some things you need to know, and some pros who might be able to do a little more, but as long as you can keep the image framed, in focus, and avoid back-light you might be OK. OTOH, such a camera costs more than some photography packages! Even more importantly, however, they are a HUGE theft risk, left unattended on a tripod while their owners are posing, in a busy area that is popular with tourists (and by association, camera thieves).
