I had my third [kind of fourth] and hopefully final cake tasting this past weekend. Yes, this dessert-lover is all sugared out. This vendor’s [found via a recommendation on my local knot board] specialty is cupcakes, so she prepared a dozen filled cupcakes for me to taste in order to maximize the number of flavors/fillings/frosting combinations I could taste. However, I am probably doing a stacked cake instead of cupcakes for various reasons.

[I again forgot to take the photos before digging in. Bad, hungry lime.] She had asked me my wedding colors in previous correspondence, and she made the cupcakes to match! She had another dozen for another [Fall wedding, winery] bride coming in for a tasting after me, and she had decorated theme in Fall-ish shades (brown, gold, deep green, orange) with leaves and other fun fall stuff on top. Of course I forgot to take a photo
.
Onto the taste. The cake was moist but could have been more so for my taste. The buttercream was way too sweet for my taste, but her cream cheese frosting was delicious. These are the only two frostings I tried as I want the cake frosted in white and don’t want to risk whipped cream frosting (my favorite!) for my outdoor, August wedding. They aren’t quite as gourmet or chi-chi as Sprinkles or Leda’s (which I’m a total sucker for), but there’s a quality about these that remind me of the cupcakes that the best stay-at-home mom from among your third grade class’ moms would bring in, in a very good way. Oh, and the decorations are a lot cleaner than said mom’s.
At $2 per slice OR [regular-sized, not mini, not Sprinkles or Bluebird Cafe gigantor] cupcake, her prices almost can’t be beat. She also waives the $20 delivery fee (depending on where your venue is) for orders over $200. Beyond her prices, her range of style and flexibility are awesome.
Here are some other samples from her portfolio.
Cake:

Love the dots, of course

Retro! Remember these doll cakes?

Sugar paste flower work.
Cupcakes:

Bees! [of chocolate-covered raisins+almonds]

I’m not an Elmo fan, but I love the detail of his “fur” here. All facial features are edible fondant.

Just my style. Yes, I <3 fondant dots, even if they’re the yucky ones from Sprinkles. I’m not sure what these are made of, though. She can also do pie:

I love the stand, similar to the ones Mrs. Bee featured previously. She also has a great selection of stands for either cake or cupcakes for rent at very reasonable prices. Sarah Witt works out of her home in Lakewood, but she also has access to a nearby commercial kitchen for larger jobs. I know some venues have insurance and liability issues with such bakers, but mine luckily does not. Anyway, she’s definitely worth giving a call.
