“Let The Tree Hug You”

April 16th, 2007 @ 12:00 pm by Mrs. Lime

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobuckethe* Mr. Lime likes to call me a treehugger (by his standards, that is), so this tagline of Simply Wood Rings tickled me. These unique rings are good for people that have metal allergies (one of my bridesmaids can’t even wear platinum) and for the eco-conscious.

Simple designs

Sets and boxes

“Mixed media,” if you need a little bit of metal or bling.

Much of the lumber used is sourced from other crafts people. Lumber such as that from the elegant neck of a violin that had its beginnings filling orchestra halls with sounds that soothed the human soul, or the wood from the baseball bat of a mothers’ young son.

He also uses such eco-friendly woods as ancient kauri and bogwood that is thousands of years old [and already felled a long time ago, it seems].

At $120-340 per wedding band set the prices are very reasonable, too. There are some styles in the online store, but he takes commissions (using your wood or his) as well.

Those are pretty cool. I really like the one with the stripe of blue down the middle.

Wow I never heard of wood rings before. I was curious as to how they could last and he likens the rings to quality violins. Interesting!

after a little googling, i found his blog here:
http://woodring.blogspot.com/

in the following entry, he says they’re supposed to last a lifetime.

in my experience designing other things with wood, it can last with the proper care. the only thing to note, though, is that wood + water = frenemies. wood needs water in its plant life, but once it becomes wood, it hates it. with enough wax/human skin oil, the wood should stay supple. however, you probably shouldn’t immerse it in water and take it off during hand washing.

he also has an etsy shop here:

Those are pretty neat. My fiance will be getting a wood and metal ring from http://tropicalgrains.com/. We are actually providing the wood for the ring.
