merican Airlines Group & Meeting Travel (TM) offers a discount for your wedding guests:
AmericanAirlines Group & Meeting TravelSM has developed a unique wedding travel package that offers a 5% discount off the lowest applicable air fare, plus complimentary wedding invitation inserts to inform your out-of-town guests of the discount. These special discounts are available when 10 or more out-of-town guests travel to your wedding on American Airlines.
You may submit a request for a group wedding discount online or by contacting our Wedding Services Desk at 1-800-545-8193.
You can see all details here. The 10 guest minimum doesn’t mean all 10 guests have to be traveling together or even flying into the same airport. For example, my discount code applies for flights into any of the various LA and OC airports, including LAX, Ontario, Burbank, Long Beach, and John Wayne.
When you get the discount code via email, they will also give you information on how to contact Avis for rental car discounts as well.

One wedding I was invited to a few years back did this, and it was helpful. Although your guests may find cheaper fares elsewhere, it’s a nice gesture that doesn’t take all that much time or headache. At all.

yes we have been using this. american happens to have the cheapest and shortest flights to our location so it works out. guests have been saving an average of $28-22 on each ticket (in the $400-500 range). definitely helps and feels good when you see that deduction!
its easy to set up. it just takes a few days to activate so dont wait to the last minute. i’d definitely recommend it.

I am using this too. Also people should know the rate is best if done online. If you call and book your ticket they told me they would charge $10.
Does anyone know what happens if 10 people don’t book? Do the people who’ve already booked get charged the difference?

lilikoi : not sure since our wedding wont be until july. but i think i asked them this and they said no.
its pretty informal and not like setting up a travel group where there are strict minimums. call them though, its worth checking into.
lilikoi and J., that’s the impression i got as well, although they didn’t come out and say outright that it’s pretty much a 5% discount, no matter how many people end up using it.
