Honeymoon: Under the Sea

April 17th, 2007 @ 5:58 pm by Mrs. Strawberry

So I thought that staying in a hut on the water would be pretty exotic. Well, take a look at this.

Ithaa is the first ever all-glass undersea restaurant located at the Hilton Maldives Resort and Spa. It sits five meters below the waves of the Indian Ocean, surrounded by a vibrant coral reef and encased in clear acrylic, offering diners 280-degrees of panoramic underwater views.

How amazing is this? It scares me a little though. I saw Jaws 3. Louis Gossett Jr. wanted to make more money and allow more people than should be allowed in that restaurant… and then the kids will be banging on the walls, then a 3-D Great White will head-butt the restaurant and then DISASTER. Unless of course Dennis Quaid can save the day…. with some dolphins. Pretty cool though. :)

though i’d be completely distracted by all the fish in the sea. knowing how i get at the aquarium that’s a real possibility.

Wow, I want to eat there!! I absolutely hate aquariums, because they keep large animals like dolphins and killer whales in such small quarters in captivity. But this is sort of like putting US in the aquarium for the sea creatures to stare at, no? And since we can enter the small quarters by choice, and we’re not putting any animals in captivity, I love it. I must get the fiance to put the Hilton Maldives on the list of honeymoon locations to look into…

this is terrible for the environment. it’s so destructive for the coral reefs–in ten years the reefs around the area wont be there anymore and the view would be lost, because of this resturant…wow this sucks

I designed an underwater research facility for school. It’s beyond expensive to have something like that, let alone a restaurant with all the functions it has to perform! The shark head butting the restaurant and breaking it is unlikely. What needs to be of more concerned is, is the shell pressurized properly, is it ventilated properly?

Neato! Can you imagine all the maintenance issues it’ll have in 20 years? Better get there quick while everything’s still working right!

I’ve seen this same restaurant posted somewhere else before. The hotel prices are crazily high! (but what else would you expect with a hotel that builds a restaurant like this) =)

Okay I just checked it & it seems that hotel prices start at only $85. I guess I got it mixed up with something else. Oops.

Wow I think I’d be scared. Something about being underwater gets to me… I don’t think I could eat there! But it is a very interesting idea!

Okay okay. Last post from me. I don’t know how I found the $85 price but it seems like all I can find now are villas that cost $400+. Whatever. I’m done with this lol.
