Patch Cake Toppers

April 18th, 2007 @ 4:40 pm by Mrs. Bee

Patch NYC creates some of the most adorable custom cake toppers I’ve ever seen. Artists hand create each piece, incorporating details specific to the bride and groom. They require a 4 month lead time, and start at $500, but you’re sure to cherish these long after the wedding is over. (via nymag)

OK, I have to say that is one of the ugliest things I’ve ever seen. Seriously who pays $500 for a bobblehead and some sparkly pipecleaners?

Kim says:

Hey! I think these are crazy cute. Full disclosure - I paid $500 for this wedding topper.

Miss Strawberry says:

I think they’re precious Kim! $500 cute? Maybe not in my book…but I can see why you love them! :)

Kim says:

Miss Strawberry - your comment about the topper being ‘precious’ made me smirk. Before I saw this topper, I thought wedding toppers with people were really lame. The ultimate example of that would be the ‘Precious Moments’ wedding topper that you see in tacky gift shops.

I agree Kim.. I had decided that I didn’t want a cake topper because the majority are two porcelain figures.. then after the wedding what are you going to do with it? It’s not personal and it’s going to collect dust. With these, at least it’s something unique and fun that can be personalized! While I wouldn’t pay $500, I consider myself pretty crafty, and I may try to make one myself :) … it doesn’t get more personal than that!

$500 bucks… whoa… this could be a diy cake topper & it would mean so much more after the wedding :)

maybe you could have this as a game during a bridal shower… the winning topper makes it to the wedding :)

kinda cute…to each his own, however a more permanent, kiln fired, hand sculpted alternative is available, at about 1/3 the price….if you visit my website, http://www.magicmud.com/Wedding%20photos.htm you will see over 200 examples of custom made wedding cake toppers….built from scratch to clients specs , have been doing it for 30 years as a living, and turnaround time is about 1 month …
there also is the alternative of getting some pipe cleaners and….. :-)

If my little niece made me this as a present I might use it on the bridal shower cake just for fun and to avoid hurting her feelings.

This topper was good enough for a spread in the Spring 2006 edition of Martha Stewart weddings. Haters - are you doubting Martha?

it doesn’t really matter what everyone in the world thinks about them. for those that aren’t crafty, but want something different and think these are cute, then maybe 500 bucks isn’t too much. no need to be nasty. no one is forcing anyone to buy it if they don’t like it. sheesh.
