I love telling this story. Thanks to Mrs. Bee’s topic of the week, I have an excuse to gush all about our story and go into all the lovey dovey details that make you want to gag. I hope everyone has a paper bag handy.
Love at First Sight:
Freshman year of college, Mr. Snow Pea and I both flunked Engineering Calculus. The next semester, we had to retake the course at night in a much more intimate classroom of 20 or so people. That’s where we also made our best friends Groomsman Asada and Bridesmaid Stargazer Lily. It was the first day of class and class had already started. Mr. Snow Pea strolls in late (as per usual).
(I did this for fun on Photoshop)
The transaction went as follows:
I thought, “Mmm, he’s cute. Gorgeous eyes and great smile.”
Mr. Snow Pea thinks, “Ahh I am just in time. Where to sit? Where to sit?”
I smiled, “Hey, you can sit here.”
Mr. Snow Pea smiles back, “Oh I’ll just sit in front of HER.”
We weren’t paying much attention to class. He kept turning around and talking to me. When class was dismissed, we all went to “the caf” for dinner and he tagged along. We talked all throughout dinner and he asked me for my AIM screen name! This was also the year Napster was huge! We were friends for quite some time, but we both had significant others back home or away in another college, so we remained very much faithful.
How I knew he was The One:
I worked nights on the edge of town. As the nights got darker, Mr. Snow Pea offered to walk me back to my dorm. I insisted he didn’t because it was such a long walk. I left work. I locked up the building. I turned around and there he was. He walked me all the way back to my dorm and I was surprised by how sweet he was.
4 years later:
I was back in NYC. We lost touch for about 2 years. Suddenly, I saw him online one day and instantly we reconnected. We were in better places in our lives and unattached. I told him about the great chicken parm in NYC, so I invited him up to show him around NYC. After just a few dates, we thought enough is enough, we’re not going to let this opportunity slip away and began dating seriously.
“When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with someone, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”
Since we had a long distance relationship before I moved, we spent many hours on the phone. One day, we watched When Harry Met Sally together on the phone and saw that Harry and Sally were doing the same thing, only with Casablanca! We also noticed many similarities in the movie, so it’s been “our movie”.
Within months, we knew we wanted to get married. The search was over. What I appreciate most is that we’re always friends first. There isn’t anything we don’t share. If he goes somewhere, he wants me to come with him because it’s “more fun” he says. We tell each other just about everything. We run everything by the other before proceeding. Although I am independent, I don’t know what I would do without him now. Everything we want to do in life and the goals we want to achieve is for the better of the other and our family.
Since then, we was like peas and carrots!
