About Mrs. Strawberry

Make The Best Of It.

April 23rd, 2007 @ 5:23 pm by Mrs. Strawberry

So, as most of you know, I’m going for a shabby chic “theme”. Well, easier said than done. My venue is not shabby chic. It’s art deco. It’s quite lovely, don’t get me wrong, but not quite what I’m going for. Ideally, I’d love to have a reception in a barn… but that’s not in the cards.

As you can see–there are black leather booths. Uhh… so completely not shabby chic. So to try to make my shabby chic dream a reality, I’ve decided to rent linens from Select Linens and Event Rentals in Edmonds. Love these!

I think I’m going to have light pink table cloths on the tables with the black leather booths, and then one or more of these prints on the tables lining the dance floor. I’m trying my best to work with what I’ve got! :)

Here are some more pictures of some of the cool things Select Linens has done in the past.

I have been to a few weddings here and I think you will be able to pull off your shabby chic theme, eve with the black booths!

I think it’s going to be a challenge to overcome that dark art deco space — so opposite of the theme you want to set. Keep us posted on how you are going to pull it off. I wonder if lighting might be useful? Is your reception at night? Sometimes dark furniture/walls just disappear at night, providing you more of a blank canvas to work with.

Oh man, so cool… but I wish I could trade! I would LOVE a sleek, art-deco style wedding reception! my themes a bit more baroque, though, mostly because it’s a lot easier on my arts and crafts budget!

Love it! I would love to go shabby chic for our home reception! I can’t wait to see more pics of yours.

I will never understand why people complain about their venue not being suitiable to their theme when they are the ones who chose it in the first place. Seriously, if you can;t have exactly what you want, then wait until you can, or accept it.

gabs- i think it’s a lot easier said than done. there are sooo many things that have to be right for you to pick a venue: number of guests it can accomodate, proximity to the ceremony location, cost, food, etc. etc. sometimes you have to sacrfice one thing to get everything else you want or need.

That was my venue and I think you can pull it off Miss Strawberry! It’ll be dark in there at night - after 8pm - but I think everyone will “get” the shabby chic look you’re going for initially. Another way to lighten up the place would be to use light-colored chair covers…? Just a thought.

Gabs–my theme was something that evolved. When I booked the venue I didn’t have any idea what I wanted to do with the wedding. Plus–there aren’t a lot of barns in Seattle. Like I said, I’m making the best of it.

oh and Pixelvixen–I think white folding chairs or natural colored ones might be the direction we’re going. :)

the example table settings look straight out of the cath kidston website! her stuff is expensive, but maybe you might get some more ideas if you got your hands on one of her catalogues. i really love those prints, too!

It seems as if it will be very challenging to mix your shabby-chic w/ that very dark art deco room. Perhaps if your budget allows you can bring in an lighting expert to help soften that strong tone w/ some soft colored lights. just a thought as it seems those pretty flower linens seem so unhappy next to black=(
