Beehive

April 24th, 2007 @ 4:15 pm by Beehive

In today’s hive:

  1. susan is looking for a comfortable pair of long, dangling, clip-on earrings for her wedding. She’s wearing a buttercup yellow lace Badgley Mischka bridesmaid dress previously featured on the bee. Any suggestions?
  2. susan is also looking for unique readings for the civil ceremony of her destination wedding. She’d like something for her brother and sister to read after the vow exchange, but nothing that sounds like it’s out of a movie!
  3. MK would like to know what the wedding planner typically does while everyone’s eating dinner? Of course she’d like to feed her a regular dinner, but she isn’t sure when or where, or what the protocol is regarding this.
  4. Margaret is looking for an album for about 300 prints; she’d prefer one that doesn’t have plastic sleeves, but she doesn’t want to pay an arm and a leg for it. Suggestions, anyone?
  5. E’s girl needs advice, fast! She’s three weeks away from her wedding, and still hasn’t chosen a song to walk down the aisle to. She’d prefer something with words rather than something instrumental or classic, but she’s open to anything!
  6. Tea wants to know if it’s OK to send bridal shower invitations for two people at the same address in ONE envelope. She knows that etiquette requires separate invites for the actual wedding, but since it’s just a casual shower, would the one envelope be alright?
  7. Suzy has decided to have her wedding gown tailor-made in Bangkok, but she feels unprepared to meet with the dressmaker. She has photos of dresses she likes, and she thinks she knows the fabrics she wants…but is there anything else she should do/think about beforehand?
  8. Christina is on the hunt for a wedding cake topper under $100. Her cake is light green with retro-style pink sugar daisies all around it. About the couple: she drives a new green Beetle and is a photo nut. He’s bald and a stand-up comedian. And they both love movies! Suggestions?

MK - I’d just ask the planner what she’d like to do and how she normally goes about it. If she’s done more than a couple weddings, I’m sure she’s got a system figured out. My guess is that she’ll have plenty to do during that “down” time - like sit down with a glass of wine! :-D

Susan, I have a feeling that it’s difficult to find clip on earrings, especially if you’re looking for a specific style to match your dress. While I can’t suggest a place to find them, something you may want to consider is to purchase a pair of regular earrings and change the earwires to be clip-ons. You could do it yourself (www.fusionbeads.com offers beads and jewelry components at good prices with free shipping) or you could probably take it to a jewelry store and have it changed for a small fee.. especially if you provided the clip-on clasps yourself.

Or you could do what I’m going to try and just make them yourself! Though that’s a bit more ambitious..

Wanted: Cute (under $100) wedding cake topper to go with our cake.
Cake is a light green with somewhat retro looking pink sugar daisies all around the cake.
Bride drives green new beetle (our wedding car) and both bride and groom like movies. Groom is hair deficient ;) Bride is a photo nut, groom is a stand-up comedian.
Not sure if any of this helps.. but I can’t seem to find anything that fits us.

Susan — You should also check out the Apache Wedding Blessing. It’s good for two people to read.

E’s girl - I’m walking down the aisle to Pachelbel Canon. As far as songs with lyrics — I’d suggest “It had to be you.” Although I would highly recommend an instrumental b/c its easier to cut the music off once you’re done walking.

Tea — Two envelopes, please!!! It doesn’t look good to stuff two invites into one envelope even if the event is casual.

eBay is a great place to look for clip-on earrings. As they were popular in the past, but not now, you can get them for quite cheap. Or you can always find some modern earrings you like and have them changed to clip-on by a jeweler, it shouldn’t cost much.

Margaret- It doesn’t hold 300 prints… it holds 160…. but the Milestones albums by Creative Memories are good quality. The sleeves are polypropolene - albums are archival quality. They are $44 on http://www.creativememories.com (go to albums, then they are the Picfolio Milestones at the bottom). They come in black, cream, & red. I know it doesn’t hold 300 pics but I thought it may help.

Christina–you don’t actually have to use a “wedding cake topper,” you know. As long as it’s not too heavy, you can put anything on top of the cake! A toy plastic VW bug with some appropriate action figures, perhaps. I’m very tempted to put my Kang and Kodos figures on the cake table, complete with a little bow tie and veil (as made by myself.) But I’m not sure that we need them, along with our vintage 30s bisque bride and groom, the modern but vintage-looking lovebirds in a cute cage (Song of Love by Wilton), and the little Superman and Wonder Woman figures (also with bow tie and veil) that we’re already having on the cakes and cake table. Oh, and the groom’s cake is NY Giants-themed.

Point being, it’s your wedding. Have whatever you want! One of the cutest cakes I’ve seen had Fisher Price little people on top. The old-school ones without arms, of course!

e’s girl - I am walking down to a song with words. It is called Set Me As A Seal. It is based on the biblical passage from Song of Songs, but unless you knew that before hearing the song you can’t tell it is based on biblical passages. It has beautiful harmonies with a man and woman. :)

suzy -
how exciting to have a custom wedding dress made! make sure you think about the little details that aren’t obvious from photos. like, what kind of buttons/zippers/closures do you want? and very importantly, is the dress lined?
and you say that you *think* you know what fabric you want… if you haven’t already done so, please go try on dresses in a variety of fabrics. i always thought i wanted a silk charmeuse wedding dress, but i changed my mind after trying a few of them on.
good luck and have fun!

E’s Girl - were there any close second places for your first dance song? I walked down the aisle to “our song” (Eric Clapton - If I Could Change). The Knot’s First Dance board may be a good place to lurk and get some ideas as well! If I hadn’t walked to EC I would have walked to Patty Griffin’s Heavenly Day which can be heard on her myspace: http://www.myspace.com/pattygriffin

E’s Girl - I’m walking down to Mary Chapin Carpenter’s “Grow Old With Me,” which is a John Lennon song based on a Robert Browning poem.

E’s Girl- I’m not sure what exactly you ARE looking for, but I’m a Shrek girl, and I’m particularly partial to “It Is You(I Have Loved)” by Dana Glover-from the first Shrek movie.
Some lyrics:

…But now I know just who you are
And I know you hold my heart
Finally this is where I belong
It is you I have loved all along

It’s no more mystery
It is finally clear to me
You’re the home my heart searched for so long
And it is you I have loved all along…

E’s girl: I’m using Eastmountainsouth’s “So Are You to Me.” Short (just under 2 minutes), and it has a wonderful moving fiddle part. I love it! You can
hear it at:

Tea - I think you mean that you want to send one invatation to two people who live at the same address. Either two roommates, or a mother and a daughter. This is perfectly ok.

Susan–you’re welcome to steal this poem right out from under me…as long as your wedding is after mine. :) We’re having the groom’s sister and a close friend of mine read “Falling in love is like owning a dog” by Taylor Mali.

Also Susan–making your own earrings is crazy easy, and you’ll get exactly what you want.

Margaret–Creative Memories albums are expandable. They did a wedding promotion earlier this year, too, so there’s all new stuff.

Hey, I have a question. I’m not changing my name, so what do they announce at the end of the wedding ceremony? Just our first names? Both of our first and last names (sounds a wee bit silly, no?)? Anyone know what happens?

Susan, I had the same dilemma. But, don’t worry, this website will give you the earrings. Roberta Chiarella is a celebrity earring designer. Many of his earrings were featured on bridal magazines. The best part is they make it into either clip-on or pierced. I think you will find something there. Check out his site:
