Mrs. Kiwi's Picture
Mrs. Kiwi, Los Angeles Age and Occupation in 06: 27, Bookkeeper Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, P.E. Teach/Coach @ private schools in LA Engagement Date: March 31, 2006 Wedding Date: November 3, 2007 Venue: Radisson Hotel About Me: I'm a bookkeeper who failed high school algebra. I'm currently living in Los Angeles, literally a street over from where I grew up with Mr. Kiwi, my honey of three years. We have a jumbo mini-dachshund (seriously, he's huuuuge), and we're planning an autumn themed wedding on a shoestring, paid for by ourselves. The wedding date is my late grandma's birthday, I needed her there somehow, and that seemed like the best way for us. I can't believe I'm a Bee! I couldn't be more proud!
About Mrs. Kiwi

I Wish I May

April 25th, 2007 @ 12:13 pm by Mrs. Kiwi

As a child I was raised to be gracious and not to ask for anything. When people would ask me what I wanted for Christmas and/or birthdays I’d say, “I don’t need anything! Really, it doesn’t matter.” As a kid, you totally wanted to be like, “I want the My Little Pony Stable with the Cotton Candy Princess Pony!!” But noooo… bad manners.

This is why I am now wishing I was raised like a wild animal (and yes, born in a barn), so I wouldn’t be considered uncouth when I asked for an insane present for our wedding. Okay, it’s not insane- just not traditional (I’m really growing to hate that word).

I wish for the gift of Disney. Not Disney stock, or Disney animation cells, I covet a passport to Disneyland. Due to high costs of wedding planning, our passports had to go the way of new shoes - no more passports for the Kiwis. sad03 I really wish we could forgo our coffee maker and new dish rack and just register for two year long passports to Disneyland- Veruca Salt references are noted.

Yes, it’s frivolous and not money well-spent, but as you all know, it’s our favorite place. No matter how many times we go in a year, I still get restlessly excited the night before. I run into the park, dragging Mr. Kiwi behind me. Me, the most impatient person in the world, will wait happily while the line for Pirates of the Caribbean sluggishly drags me into the sun. I’m a different person at Disneyland, ya know?

Unfortunately, there is no Disneyland registry, and on the Crate and Barrel website there is no place to add “2 Season Passports to Disneyland” to our list of housewares. So, I will just have to sit and wait another year until we can blow our wad of cash on our wedding day- then the money will be saved again..

Oh, Disneyland, how I love you.

(and want to OWN YOU)

Are there any unreasonable gifts you wish you could ask for? Other than the Simple Human $200.00 trash can, that is. (While I think this isn’t unreasonable, Mr. Kiwi certainly does).

Tell Mr. Kiwi that Mr. N’s first comment regarding our 10gal simple human trash can: “I can’t believe we have a $100 trash can.”

It was followed shortly by: “pretty neat.”

And then by: “I LOVE SIMPLE HUMAN.”

No complaints.

Do you have a wedding website where your registry info is listed? Last when when my FSIL got married, they had a page where it had links to their two in-store registries, and then below they had written in that they would also like picture frames and a membership to Sam’s or Costco. Surely you could do something similar. If we as a community of people you’ve never met understand your love for Disney, it’s not unreasonable to think your friends and family get it too. And you never know, maybe your sister or best friend from high school is dying to find something for you that you’d REALLY love instead of a random kitchen gadget!

my love for Disney is why i wont let Mr. Butterfly change jobs. Or if he does, he has to go to another division within the Walt Disney company. Actually, now that we’re on the topic, my love for Disney is pretty much one of the first reasons why we hit it off when we met. Out first conversation went like this:

me: what do you do?
mr. b: i work at disney
me: 8O - that was the beginning of the end. hahaha.

he likes to joke that i married him only for the Disney perks. =P

I put the $100 Oxo trash can on our registry. No one’s bought it, but things are just starting to disappear from the list.

A friend asked me yesterday what a “dream” wedding gift would be if several friends were to go in together. Other than a car. Problem with that is I still don’t know how much they each are willing to spend, and I don’t know how many people, so I don’t have a ballpark price point. Since we’re hoping to buy a house later this year, we’re putting off things like furniture and plasma TV (as if we buy them all the time) until we know where we’re going to be living next year and what it will look like–we don’t know the dimensions of the rooms, right? Anyway, other than the plasma TV, I couldn’t think of anything “dream”-like. However, we *could* use some really good, grownup luggage. We each have nice weekenders and carry-ons, but we don’t have real vacation-sized suitcases for the honeymoon, and the luggage that’s out today is lightyears away from the stuff my parents gave me fifteen years ago when I graduated from college. I suggested luggage, then, but I’m not sure it was sexy enough. If we lived in California and I had suggested Disneyland passes, they probably would have gone for it! ;)

Maybe you have some friends, Miss Kiwi, who would like to give you a dream present!

Sounds like you get a lot of stress release and happiness from it — maybe it’s worth having! Maybe someone will give you money for a wedding gift so you can treat yourselves to at least ONE visit together?

If I could register for anything big and absurd, it would be a car. There is a very, very good chance that my fiance will be moving away 3 weeks after we get married to complete his residency, but I will have to stay behind to finish my Ph.D., so chances are that our first 3 years of married life will be spent living 350 miles apart. Since I live in the city, I don’t have/need a car, but if I’m going to have to commute with him, one would sure be handy… either a car, or loads of Amtrak tickets!

Heh…I worked at Disney World in entertainment for 4 years. If there were ever the perfect job for enjoying the parks, this is it. You get to nap most of the day (rightfully so, because when you are on stage your kicking your butt) and when you are on break, you just tool around the parks and no one knows the wiser.

Although by the end I was pretty frustrted with the entire Disney corporation, the parks still remain magical to me.

Just thought I would share.
