Unique Bridesmaid Gifts

April 25th, 2007 @ 4:45 pm by Mrs. Pumpkin

One of the few things that I just can’t seem to get right in my wedding planning is the gift for my MOH. I had ordered this stationery cube:

from BeauCoup in February, and it would have been perfect because she loves sending cards and notes in the mail and adding personalized notes to gifts. But I’ve since found out that it has been discontinued. :( So now I am starting from scratch!

I never thought that it would be this hard to buy her a thank you gift! She has been a BM several times already, so I have the added pressure of finding something unique. And of course I also really want to show her how much I love her! I have looked at all of the ideas on The Knot, in Martha and InStyle Weddings magazines, and many other websites as well as scouring stores for months and I am still drawing a blank. I am really hoping to find something in Vegas this weekend, but I could use some help with ideas of what to look at. So if you have a unique idea for bridesmaids gifts, please share them below!

I have been struggling trying to come up with something for my maids too! Yesterday I came up with an idea. Instead of getting them something wedding related, such as jewelry to wear the day of, I decided to pretend that I was birthday shopping for them and see what struck my fancy! I have decided to get each of them, there are two, a Harajuku Lovers make up bag and put a fancy lip gloss and candle inside. Or something along those lines. I should be able to do that and keep in the $50 range. I would love to get that if I were a bridesmaid…

How about the plush robes, scented candles, and monogrammed totes posted earlier today? I especially like the robe (could even be monogrammed).

I’ve pretty much decided to get each girl a handmade wrislet. I’m also going to make each one a mini scrapbook filled with random photos of us. That’s all I have so far..

I found someone on Etsy who makes lovely custom letterpress notecards for less than a fortune! So my two maid/matrons of honor will get notecards with their names letterpressed into them. I feel like I should get them something additional, and like you, I have had such a hard time with this. It seems like I’ve been agonizing over this for months!

I did custom make-up bags at http://www.bagettes.com with pics of us younger and from my bachelorette (one on each side). I also considered a charm bracelet with their initials on a disk charm and three charms that commemorated special times together.
Silpada sells a great one.

If she likes sending notes, maybe you can get her a box of cards. I’ve seen this “card” catologue thing where they have hand-made cards for various occasions. It’s like mini card shop in a box.

I think I’m going to make my bridesmaid a collage of photos and put it in a nice frame. Since my wedding is more than a year away, I’m going to take pics of us during different Bridesmaid outtings. This way they have a memory of the whole thing.

I am currently working on a gift for my sister who is getting married in August (I’m MOH). She’s trying to get into cooking and entertaining so I’m creating a food/drink recipe book for her with some favorites, but renaming them so that they are personalized to her (memories, favorite things, etc.) - But I’m sure I have more time on my hands than you do!

Have fun in Vegas! I am there this weekend as well, with my FI and his BM. It’s tons of fun.

Hi, this probably won’t apply for you since you are in Canada, but for US brides…

I’m a fragrance designer with Urban Botanic, which has been featured here on Weddingbee before, and I will be doing a workshop for a bride who is creating a wedding day scent for herself and getting her bridesmaids UB products. Basically, you have a workshop/party, design a custom fragrance from 66 perfume oils, then batch the scent and mix it into the unscented products–really really easy. Also the MyScents kits have been really popular bridesmaids gifts–it’s like a mini UB party.

The thing that the brides who have done this like is that their BMs can use the products for a long time after the wedding, and it’s not specifically related to their wedding, AND it’s personal to each woman. UB is inexpensive also–$48 for a 2 oz parfum spray, an 8 oz lotion and an 8 oz shower gel or bubble bath, or any of the products can be purchased separately of course.

If anyone wants more info, please feel free to check out my website:
http://www.urbanbotanic.com/aimee

There is also a personality test on there that tells you what fragrance family you “belong” in (I use belong loosely as of course it won’t be a hard and fast determination!)–it’s very short and fun, so if you need a quick time killer… :)

Bed, Bath and Beyond has gorgeous Nicole Miller “Soft as Mink” terry half-length robes right now for $29.95. They come in pink and white. I bought 6 pink ones for my BMs and a white one for me. I am going to have our first initials embroidered on them. Great for getting ready the morning of, but they are nice enough to be used afterward either at home or as a beach coverup.

It’s funny that you mentioned the stationary-type idea, because I had been researching that as a wedding gift for a friend. One of my favorite finds was from Crane & Co. They have a variety of stationary sets ranging from inexpensive to personalized and way out of my budget. The link below is to the particular set I had been eyeing up.. but I’m sure you can find more if you explore the site. My friend is moving away from the east coast once she is married, so thought it would be a nice way for her to keep in touch. I was also going to have cute address labels printed for her and her husband, so that’s something you could add to the gift as well. A nice pen and journal may be other things you could add while keeping in line with the theme. Or maybe an awesome calligraphy pen - the old kind - and a calligraphy lesson or book?! Haha, I hope this was helpful.. I get too carried away with these ideas!

don’t give up on the note card idea. i found a website that wanted $52 for 25 hand calligraphed note cards and i thought “heck no!” but it was a great idea.

so i bought extra card stock from my invitation designer (will be about the same price as a place like http://www.paper-source.com but heavy lovely card stock) and am having my calligrapher write their names on the top of each card in a unique font for each girl. then i got envelopes — a different color for each girl — at the kate’s paperie sale in the NYC SoHo store. i even picked up a corner rounder to make each card a little more polished from http://www.impressrubberstamps.com (on sale for $7.20) and a pretty pen for each — the whole project will cost less than $15 per girl for 25 cards.

I bought jewelry for all of my bridesmaids. Real jewelry never ends up in a garage sale.

I just bought them a bunch of things I thought they would like - not necessarily bridesmaid-related. A custom-designed wristlet, a pretty necklace (not a cheapie rhinestone thing in my wedding colors or any of that), a candle with saucy names (from candledelight), a handmade soap in a fragrance for each, a book (different for each)…just kind of playing around with it, it’s fun to get the same general thing for each but make it personalized to each of them. Makes me laugh how different they are. :)

I got the best bridesmaid gift from my friend that got married about a month ago!!! They are customized clutches that have this really cool magnetic embellishment that dresses up the bag. I get so many compliments on mine. The website picture does not at all do them justice though. They really need better pictures but regardless, they are definitely worth checking out. Good luck!

I got super cute eyemasks and tank/boy short set from http://www.dadivashop.com along with a framed photo from a memorable night out. They loved it!
